2022 Mercedes EQS 580
I'm a bit disappointed they went with RWD and no Hyperscreen for the base model. I was expecting a three tier offering with an AWD 500 model in between the 450+ and 580. It's surprising especially in context of the fact that the sedan 450+ its now being offering with AWD.

I'm probably going to pass and wait for the EQE500 SUV then. Especially given the third row seats don't seem that usable based the autogefuhl review.

MBUSA will definitely need to add an AWD 450 to the lineup, I don’t think they want to repeat the same mistake of the sedan. For sedan buyers, some will be fine with RWD, but SUV buyers want AWD full-stop.

Interestingly, on the global MB Media site, a 4Matic 450 variant is listed (similar to EQS Sedan). I can imagine it won't be long until that variant makes its way to the US.

it’s possible you can play Jenga with all the rows to max out third row to similar to x7 level (31.5” or so if I recall)

Makes sense. These guys need to get their act together.

Still I wouldn't buy an AWD450 either if it has no Hyperscreen which appears to be the case.

I'm on the list at our local MB dealership to order an EQS 580 SUV when order banks open. I think it is beautifully executed but will need to see one in-person and of course test drive it. We ordered a BMW iX 50 scheduled to be build in June, so my wife and I will be in a good position to decide which EV checks the most boxes when the dealership gets their first SUV for test drives. Hopefully we'll see less of those obnoxious "GAME OVER" videos from Tesla fanboys with these new SUV EV's coming to market and more offerings on the way.

I have a build date of May 13th for our IX. I took my wife to the dealership to see it and to be honest she was pretty angry that I ordered it. She said it looked like a cheap minivan!

I tried to explain that it has the benefit of being an EV, she won't need to worry about an empty tank, and the Apple CarPlay will work flawlessly and full-screen unlike in her 2020 GLE450. Still angry.

Not sure whether I should refuse delivery when it arrives, or take it and then if she refuses to use it, I can always flip it and keep the GLE till something better comes along. She is also interested in the new Range Rover and the Aston-Martin DBX. Ideally she wants an EQG but the dealer seems to want a 100k ADM on orders for that.

The iX is not for everyone but my wife loved it. She has no issue with it and loves the ride and tech. I showed her a few videos of the new EQS 580 SUV and she really likes the looks of it so we'll see where we end up in the long run. But we're definitely taking delivery of the iX when it comes in as we want to move onto an EV.

our family is split down the middle on the ix. EQS may be less polarizing

another star: 36ft turning radius (similar to cla coupe)

So what are you guys preferring? I normally prefer the AMG-line, but in this case I think I prefer the Luxury line. The front bumper looks more sleek and clean in the luxury line, and they both have the black cladding (unlike on the GLE and GLS).

I like both front ends but I do agree the Luxury-Line has a cleaner look (probably due to more open space). That being said, I prefer the gloss black cladding of the AMG-Line compared to the unpainted Luxury-Line cladding. That being said, maybe after seeing more colors the Luxury-Line may be more convincing. Would like to see Emerald Green, Cardinal Red, and Nautical Blue on the EQS.

I agree with you about the glossy black cladding looking best but the luxury line does look good. I really wish they would offered painted wheel arches. Can't have everything I guess. Overall, MB did a great job with the looks.

MB said in their press release the EQS SUV would be available the second half of the year in the US market. I wonder how soon the DOG will be available? We have an iX on order that is to be built in June and likely arrive late July. We're still going to buy the iX but I want an EQS 580 SUV with the AMG package so I'm ordering it as well. The iX should hold its value because its in vert short supply. I already have my name a list at the local MB dealership. I'm very impressed with the design of the SUV version, in my view it's better looking than the sedan especially in the front. The SUV is less pointed and more upright with a larger 'grill'. It just works on a SUV. I'm guessing a loaded EQS 580 SUV will be at least $130k.

hey Joe in my head I’m thinking roughly that price too. maaaaaybe we are pleasantly surprised since it’s US built, unlike EQS sedan.

re dog, I was told early to mid May. Hopefully a configurator is up by then

ix off the table for me - prefer the execution of this, plus there are some distinct differences I value (3rd row, sunroof)

Nothing has been released on time really, so don’t take the “second half of 2022” to heart yet. Dealers are still waiting for SL’s and C-Class’ too.
