Just took deliver EQS 450+ SUV

So far I am impressed. I am coming from a Tesla Model X which was a poorly built SUV. The EQS is far superior in fit and finish and is super quiet on the freeway. The X thought it was the U2 record, Rattle and Hum. There are a few little quirks that are typical of MBUX but nothing horrible. Since I live in FL I did not get 4matic and I like the feel of the RWD more than AWD.

Huh, looks like you have AMG line wheels on a non AMG line car. What 3 letter code do the wheels on your window sticker have?

I’ve had way too many cars, 4 now, with dark interior and prefer lighter now. The photo you show is of a 18 year old car. Can you get that same interior in a modern unit?

Sadly not from M-B, but you can still get hand-crafted interiors like this in R-R and Bentley, though.

To each his own. To me that is way too much wood. Reminds me of the time I ordered a wood trim package for my Suburban and after I got all the pieces on I hated it. Took them off after a week and threw them in the trash.

I have the aluminum stars wood trim, and when you see it and touch it, it feels very high quality and the work to embed each one of the stars makes it feel very high end.

fascinating. MB did this on some EQBs as well, likely due to supply issues. The third row non AMG line EQSs are supposed to have a different wheel design but I guess they built a batch with these wheels. On the idée guide it says they’re only available with the AMG line exterior.

Are the running boards only available with the non-AMG line exterior? Are you happy with the running boards? I liked them on my GL450 since they helped to reach the roof top carrier.

Yes, hopefully they have the capability to add it in AMG in the future. I would purchase and add them to my car in the future.

EQS 450+ Purchased

A week ago today wife and I decided to move on from the 2015 S Class. It served us very well with nearly 160,000 miles (we are retired 9 years now but love road trips), but it was almost major maintenance time and we thought time for a new vehicle. At 69 with a cranky lower back we decided it might be best to go with a SUV this time so I can climb into/fall out of it. Checked our dealer website and saw a GLS that would likely provide what we wanted.

Test drove it and it is simply too big for us, wife felt uncomfortable driving it. So we try a GLE. Size was a just a little smaller than we would have liked, and couldn't find one on the lot that was luxurious enough on the inside...always an issue when coming from an S Class.....and especially for us as we tend to go to for nearly fully optioned vehicles. So our long time salesman asked if we thought about electric. I was a little wary due to limited charging network infrastructure as we do our road trips, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. He showed us a very well equipped EQS 580 SUV. Even had our black on black color we always get. However, we couldn't drive it because someone else ordered it and would be picking it up the next day. No other 580's on the lot, and those coming in were ordered vehicles. Was told we could order one, but we didn't want to wait.

He then suggested a black on black 450+ with the highest level (Pinnacle) trim and showed it to us. As he went through the 450+/ 580 comparison the only real disappointment was no hyperscreen with its huge HUD, but other than that it was ideal. Well, we wish it didn't have the 3rd row, but such is life. So we decided to put a hold deposit on it and asked for 24 hours to make a decision, he said take 48. So I did all my online research (including here), read all the reviews, saw all the youtube reviews, researched nationwide charging networks, etc.. Called him Saturday morning and siad we'd buy it, and we picked it up Monday.

Thus far we love it. With just a couple of days and less than 150 miles of driving too early to give an objective review, so I won't beyond "We love it". Delivery picture s below. I didn't take a picture of the interior , but it is the same as FLGatorz except for black Nappa seats Yacht Design wood w/Aluminum lines. Wheels are also a little different and I don't have the running boards.

Will provide a review at about the 1000 mile mark.

Thanks to everyone on this Board for their reviews/comments etc, very helpful in my decision process.

Congratulations, what a beautiful looking ride. I’m sure you and your wife will really enjoy it. As for charging infrastructure, that is a legitimate concern and one we hope improves over the coming years (we live in PA). But once you have a level two charger installed at your home, you’ll love no longer having to stop at a gas station, at least we do. You also mentioned the ease of access into and out of the EQS SUV. This was a major selling point for my wife and I, both of us have bad knees. We owned several large SUVs over the past 10 years, but the EQS 580 SUV is without a doubt the easiest vehicle we’ve ever owned for easy access. The seats are at a perfect height.

Once again, enjoy your new ride and let us know what you think after you’ve experienced several weeks of driving.

An update on the EQS 450+ purchase. While it was a great vehicle, there was a problem with a clunking noise in the front suspension. Would occur going over a speed bump, turning left or right at a speed in excess of 5 MPH, or when moving from a sloping elevation (my driveway) onto a flat surface (street). Multiple attempts to repair it failed, including replacing most of the front suspension. They could minimize the clunking sound by torquing it outside the required torque range, but that's not good enough (and they could not release the car to me when they knew something was out-of-spec). Rather than live with it and have a fear of an issue in the future we reached an agreement on a trade-in.

New one looks like the old one in the picture, except (1) wheels, (2) no stars on front, (3) space grey interior and most significantly (4) the badge is now a 580. Multiple reasons for the upgrade. First and most importantly, the range on the 450+ was much better than the EPA, typically in the 330-340 ballpark. Assuming the 580 also has a higher than expected range (it does through the first 1100 miles) my requirement for a range of at least 300 miles is still met.

Secondly, the hyperscreen. On the 450+ I sacrificed the hyperscreen to make sure I got at least 300 miles in range. That was a mistake on my part. Now we have both.

Thus far it has been great, too great in fact. As retirees we have only 1 vehicle. Prior to this 580 I drove about 99.5% of the time, even the 450+. However, my wife loves this car and is now driving 90+% of the time. She cannot get enough of it. Not a problem, I don't mind being driven because of the hyperscreen. Bought some noise cancelling headphones so I don't have to listen to her music, so I can relax listening to Sirius XM or my music.
