Second tire rotation at 15000 miles

I rotated tires today at 15000 miles. Front tire tread depth is about 6/32 and rear tires are down to about 5/32. The passenger side tires seem to be showing slightly more wear than the driver side tires. It's not clear to me if my non-staggered tires can be rotated to the opposite side of the car, or just front to rear.

I am expecting these tires to fail the PA safety inspection which is due in November. I think 24000 miles is the most I can expect from the factory 21" tire set. I have 20" rims on order from the UK and new tires ready to pick up at TireRack.

If anyone in the Philadelphia Area is interested in 21" non-staggered EQS SUV wheels, part number A29640116007X23, mine will be available in a few months with center caps and TPMS sensors.

When I finally wear out the original tires on my 580 SUV I might try out these Hankook EV tires. Rated I believe for 50k miles.

I don't think the correct size is available for your front tires.

Tire wear diver side compared to passenger

The passenger side tires, both front and rear, are worn more than the driver side tires. I just rotated the tires front-to-rear, but I am thinking I have a better chance of making it to 24K miles if I also rotate them side-to-side. I am wondering if doing so is a best practice or not.

Do you have Airmatic? If so, is there a possibility something could be out of whack with that?

I believe side to side rotation is ok as long as the tires are bi-directional and not uni-directional.

This TireRack Tech Article indicates that as well. I am going to do the side to side swap.

All EQS SUVs have Airmatic suspension. I doubt if there is anything wrong with it, but I suppose that it's possible. The wear across the width of the tires is very even. My ICE GL450 experienced the highest amount of wear on the rear passenger tire. I did rotate the tires rear to front and then side to side in the front on that SUV.

I suggest reconsideration. Here is the excerpt from the EQS Owner Manual online. Front to rear maintains the direction of rotation but side to side does not. Note the last sentence on the topic.

The Goodyear tires on my 580 SUV are asymmetrical meaning they can be rotated to any location as long as the outsides are always kept to the outside. I follow the expertise of the tire manufacturers, not a car company when it comes to tires.

According to Goodyear the tires on AWD vehicles should be rotated front to back and side to side in an "X" pattern.

https://www.goodyear.com.ph/learn/tire-rotation-basics

The problem with Vehicle Owner's manuals (and not just MB manuals) is I suspect that they start out as a cut-and-paste project from an existing manual. I would not be surprised to find some stuff only applicable to ICE cars in the EQS SUV manual.
