Seat heating and ventilation memory

Is seat ventilation or heating settings not tied to user profile? User manual seems to suggest so but it was unexpected. I kind of assumed pretty much everything would be tied to profile.

No, that wouldn't make much sense. If you turn on the seat heater on a cold night and then get back into the car the next day when it's warm again you wouldn't want the seat heaters to be on or do you? Seat heater and ventilation is being remembered for a short period after shutting off the car. So if you park somewhere briefly and then get back in to continue driving they'll be where you left them, but if the car is parked for a longer period, then they'll be off the next time.

Audi I had before remembered it and it caused no issues because seasons are either cold or hot. I have ventilation on all summer and heating on all winter.

I actually liked how the new Mazda cx90 implemented it. They tied seat ventilation heating into overall AC auto mode (it is an option).

I suppose it depends on where you live. With the mild and dry climate here it can be chilly at night or when the fog rolls in off the Pacific and then next day can be hot. I had Audis before, too. I forgot that it remembered it, because it sucked. I often drove off the next day wondering why the heck I'm so hot after having turned on the seat heater the night before until I realized I was getting cooked by the seat... haha.

I really like the way Volvo does it. The profile are linked to keys but if you make a change and does not save your profile afterward, the change is temporary. With that, issues like hot days and cold mornings go away. I prefer by far that a profile be linked to a key.

That's nice. Jeep Grand Cherokee does something similar where if the ambient temperature is cold enough, it'll automatically turn on your seat and steering wheel heater.

Hate that actually. I was in Europe in December and January and had a VW Golf rental. It insisted on turning on the steering wheel heater every time I started it and within minutes I had sweaty hands. Had to manually turn it off every time, and could for the life of me not find how to turn this off permanently. I don't need the car to decide whether I want the steering wheel heated or not. Never actually needed or wanted a heated steering wheel and I used to live in Chicago.

BMW has a feature in which you can set it to turn on/off after going below/above a temperature as well.

BMW probably has this nailed. As I understand it, they now have an automation app similar to smartphones and smart home automation systems, so instead of things automatically turning on under predefined conditions, you can set up your own personalized automation routines that suit your individual needs and wants.

I see, hopefully the automation (or the Routines, if this then that) on the W214 is any indication that MB will have something similar or perhaps better soon.
