Surprising Range Estimates for our EQS 580 SUV

In light of the recent EQS 450+ SUV range results posted on YouTube, I took a closer look at how our 580 SUV was doing and was surprised that the estimated range at 100% SOC is up to 332 miles! I was seeing closer to 250 miles of estimated range during the cold winter months. Things have really improved during the summer months, even while using AC. That is outstanding for a EV that weighs 6,200 lbs.

Any other EQS 580 SUV owners seeing similar range estimates?

Same here, i got about the same range. I'm getting about 30 miles for every 10%. that's 50/50 hwy/city driving and with AC running. This past week Socal hit 100+ temperature. My SUV sound like a single engine Cessna about to take off every time i public charge it.

I have been seeing an estimated range of 395 miles when charging to 100% SoC before a road trip this past month here in Philadelphia.

Is that with an EQS 580 SUV or one of the 450 models?

We have seen around a 400 mile estimate with our 450 4matic.

We have driven over 300 miles on a charge with about 30-40 miles remaining. This was a mix of highway (>75mph) and rural back roads. At a constant 75-80 mph my guess is 280-300 is realistic assuming moderate weather.

EQS 450 4Matic SUV. The actual range after a 450 mile trip worked out to 328. The next day after charging to 100% at the hotel the estimated range is 345.

Estimated range at 100% SoC this morning was 350. Actual range for the 400 mile trip worked out to 331 miles according to my calculations.

Here's how I calculated the 331 miles. If my logic is faulty, I fully expect someone on the forum to let everyone know.

First leg of trip was 162 miles. SoC went from 100% to 48%. Theoretical "full tank" range for this segment is 162/(100% - 48%) or 312 miles.

Charged to 95% SoC at the one and only charging stop.

Second leg of trip was 238 miles. SoC went from 95% to 26%. "Full tank" range for this segment is 238/(95% - 26%) or 345 miles.

Average "full tank" experience on this trip is 400/(52% + 69%) or 400/1.21 which comes to about 331 miles. That's not bad compared to the 285 mile EPA estimate or the 350 mile estimated range at the beginning of the trip.

This is my first car where it beat EPA estimates, my range has been over 285 as well. In the past, all my cars had higher consumption then EPA mpgs.

If you drive like my grandma you're beat any EPA estimates. Saturday I charged to 80% for a trip 220 miles round trip and barely made it home. Would have made it home with less than 5% but didn't want to take the chances. This is normal driving cause i have kids in the SUV. My range is getting worst and worst after each charge. i only have 8500 miles on it.

Part of the problem is in gas cars, red lights really killed mileage and I do a lot of driving on roads with lights. Not so much in EVs. I will have to monitor my range as my mileage increases, I am guessing the calculations do adjust overtime and yes it is true that I haven't done much spirited driving yet.

Curious to understand why you did not charge to 90% or 100% if you knew you were taking a 220 mile trip.

I think there are too many factors affecting range to ascribe your range trend to the cumulative number of charges or the total number of miles on the vehicle. After clocking 15000 miles between November and April the lifetime mileage stood at 2.4 mpkWh. At 19000+ miles the life time mileage on my SUV jumped to 2.5 mpkWh after averaging 3.0 mpkWh for the Summer months. In your case in the Summer heat the trend may be the opposite since the A/C is sucking the battery capacity to keep the cabin comfortable in this record hot Summer.

In October, after a full 12 months of ownership, the average lifetime mileage on my SUV should be representative of an MB EQS SUV in service in the Northeast with my conservative driving style.

Usually 80% will give me 250+ miles of range. I figured I'll make it home with about 10-15% and charged it back up to 80% for the week. Taking the family to 6 flags was a 150 miles round trip. Adding 100 miles for stops here and there. I was planning to take I5 straight to 6 Flags but something happens up ahead, and the GPS routed to down town LA. I'm guessing the 90 plus degrees heat and 45 minutes of stop and go traffic jam in down town LA has drained the battery more than usual. This is my first summer with the EV.

What strange was we went with my brother family, he took his Tesla Y AWD and usually i would have way more range than the Tesla, but he made it home with 50+ miles. We went to Las Vegas one time in January and the Tesla couldn't make it to Vegas. it's a 260 miles trip and i made it with 5% left.

interesting because my wife drove her 580suv 90 miles yesterday, from chino to yorba Linda (black gold golf) back to chino to walnut and back to chino. I charged her car to 80% every nigh and yesterday night she still have 53%.

edit: nvm I saw your last post. pretty sure it is the traffic jam causes extra power usage

My range estimation has increased from 33x to now 42x miles over time since I got my EQS 450 4Matic SUV. Interestingly, I get varied trip efficiency ranging from 2.2 mipkwh to 3.3 mikpwh. Recently had 3.3 then 3.0.
My total average is listed as 2.6 mipkwh (was at 2.5 since I picked it up). It is showing 247 miles left at 59% right now, Somehow don't think it is realistic range limit.. I picked it up with 151 miles on it - and have 773 total miles on it.

I suspect may be closer to 28x to 300 ideally and likely to be 220 in bad winter and maybe 250 if lucky for winter weather? Should enjoy the summer without worrying about winter though.

We just drove our EQS 242 miles through Colorado. Lots of elevation gain, several mountain passes, 5 people, 2 big dogs, and gear. It took 71% of the battery with an average efficiency of 0.316kWh/mi.

With our prior Model X and our E-tron, we were not able to complete this trip without charging. Very impressed with the EQS range and efficiency.
