Pre-ordered Lectron Vortex Plug Tesla Supercharger to CCS Adapter

I decided to pre-order the Lectron Vortex Plug after spending more than an hour at an EA charger in Sterling, VA last weekend. This long session included waiting on hold for the call center to pick up the call and to get approval to start a complimentary session. It's becoming more and more clear that EA is not going to get better until some other customer oriented charging network takes over its operations. The sooner I can say good riddance to EA the better.

The pre-sale price for the Lectron NACS to CCS1 adapter is $200.

Hopefully the MB/Tesla Supercharger access arrangement will support Plug & Charge in early 2024. I don't have the patience to wait for Tesla to retrofit the entire Superchager network with MagicDock.

I saw the same email as well, I am just not sure if it will really work or not before sinking 200$. I may wait for summer months when I am more likely to do longer trips.

I got an up close look at the state of EA chargers and I for one can't wait for MB to switch to the NACS charging port.

I wonder if MB's deal with Tesla will include 30-minute complimentary charging sessions for the first 2 years or 20,000 miles of ownership once they make the change to NACS charging ports? I would expect MB to offer a CCS-to-NACS adapter for current owners when they make the switch. I believe MB stated they will switch to NACS by the end of 2024, likely the 2025 model year,

It will eventual work itself out and when most EV manufacturers in the US switch to NACS, EA will be in a world of hurt as most owners will avoid their charging stations even if they retrofit their stations with NACS plugs.

Have you verified that your EQS SUV is compatible with the North American Charging Standard (NACS). I believe there is a lot of "hand shaking" has to take place between the Tesla Supercharger and the EQS. The superchargers do not have the facility to accept credit cards. Tesla requires an app and an account to use them. I've been using the Lectron Tesla level 2 charger to CCS adapter (at hotels and home charger) for some time and works great. However, level 2 does not require all the control communication the supercharger does. All that said, it's worth it to me to order the adapter and hope it works!

I am confident that the Lectron adapter will work. What's not clear to me is whether or not Tesla will modify its app to work with the Vortex adapter by allowing non-Tesla EV owners to select a Supercharger without the MagicDock. If they don't we would have to wait until MB and Tesla work out the details to support a Plug & Charge process that would work like a native Tesla charging session.

I did reach out to Lectron to ask if the adapter would also work with Tesla destination chargers. I will report back when I get response.

It's my understanding that Tesla Superchargers as well as Tesla vehicles already "speak" CCS protocol. This is the reason MagicDock works with EQS vehicles and Tesla cars can use EA chargers with an adapter. I am pretty sure Tesla knows more about charging EVs than all of the other manufacturers combined. It's unfortunate that they don't know more about building cars. The only risk I see in pre-ordering the Lectron Vortex adapter is that Tesla may offer its own Plug & Charge capable adapter at a lower price point. I don't see why an adapter couldn't be registered to a particular EV owner and obviate the need for any MB/Tesla agreement to use the Superchargers. Even if a Tesla adapter was more expensive than the Lectron adapter, I would order one if it allowed seamless P&C.

My guess is because Tesla doesn't get money for that. Tesla probably gets money from the negotiated manufacturer deals and any MagicDock Supercharger will get subsidies.

I think overpaid executives have to justify their existence on the planet and when there have been a sufficient number on mind-numbing meetings someone will simply push the button that unlocks all the Superchargers. Tada! It's corporate magic!

Tesla would profit from the adapter if Tesla itself were selling it to non-Tesla EV owners.

My opinion is that Tesla has much better things to make money on than the tiny market of EV’s that need a carry along adapter to their system. Tesla is light years ahead of all other EV manufacturers and even the big boys at the competition are bending over backwards to adapt or go broke.

I know I'm fookin' jealous of Tesla resale values. Granted they lowered the price but there's basically no difference in buying new vs. a one year old Tesla right now. You might save five grand, that's all. I'm going to take a major hit when I unload my EQE SUV.

To be fair they did significant price decreases so if you bought a Model Y last year, you would have already paid over 30% of today's new price. Obviously those people won't want to sell for even less now unless they really have to.

But yes I would be very surprised if my EQS is worth more then it's already low residiual value in 2026.

not when you paid 110k for a model x LR and next few months drops to 80k. 25% off direct from MSRP. and this applies to most of Tesla models.
my friend's loan amount is higher than the new model x.

Yeah I'm just saying if I didn't already own an EV though it'd be almost stoopid not to buy a Tesla tight now. Especially since swapping out a CCS connector for a NACS connector will take everyone else a whole two fookin' years to accomplish. If there was just one 2024 non-Tela that didn't require an adapter to use the Supercharger network I'd buy it, right now, for any amount of money. But oh well, all the corporate executives at all the multinational auto corps on the entire planet, COMBINED, can't seem to get that done.

The fact that Tesla offered an EVSE Wall Connector with a J1772 plug, and more recently a Universal Wall Connector with a J1772 adapter indicates to me that they intend to cater to owners with USA vehicles equipped with CCS1 ports. Offering a NACS to CCS1 adapter for DC charging should require very little effort since the existing adapter in MagicDock could probably be sold as a standalone adapter. It's true that this adapter would have a limited market life if Tesla retrofits most of the installed Superchargers. I would not be surprised if at least a million adapters could be sold before the auto industry completes the migration to NACS in the US.

Those were all the dumb people saying things like "I bought a Tesla because they dont have an ADM like the other crooked dealers"
The ADM was built into the price of the vehicle! Tesla did not "reduce the price of their vehicles" They just removed the ADM... the same ADM that all the "Crooked dealers" were adding.
