EQS Long-Term Storage

For those who have parked their EQS in a climate-controlled garage for an extended period of time (with no access for 4 straight months) in the winter, how did you manage your HV battery? I was thinking of doing the following:

- leave car at 50% SOC
- leave L1 charger that came with the car (110V) plugged in to the EQS, and the L1 charger plugged into a smart outlet. This way I can put it on a schedule to turn on for maybe 2 hours or so a week, on a very low charge rate

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you may have. Thanks

I park my EQS during the summer, it goes about 3 months without use. I leave it at 80% SOC unplugged. Never had a problem, very little drain. 58K miles and counting.

Wow, that's good and good to know. That's the scenario I'm about to have.
I assume you have it locked? I imagine the alarm system takes some juice.

No Mercedes yet
I do what my owner's manual recommends:

"If leaving the vehicle idle for lengthy periods, park up the vehicle with a high-voltage battery state of charge between 30% and 50%. Do not keep the high-voltage battery continuously connected to power supply equipment."

This has always worked for me (I'm often away from my EQS for several months at a time). Periodically, the high-voltage battery automatically recharges the 12V battery, and my high-voltage battery charge drops only 1-2% per month.

Good to know - I will leave it at 50% SOC, unplugged and unlocked as it will be in my garage. TY all.

The manual should have specific recommendations for your car. Follow those instead of what you might find on the internet.

The only thing the manual says is:If you park the vehicle for a long period, observe the following notes:
  • Make sure the high-voltage battery has a sufficient state of charge, especially at very low outside temperatures. That way, you can avoid any problems when the vehicle is subsequently started.
  • If possible, avoid parking spaces in direct sunlight.

Check to see if they have instructions for storing the vehicle, you are not in a parking situation (which would be up to a few weeks).

Nope, nothing about storage.

Some of the points under the heading of Charging the high voltage battery:
  • If leaving the vehicle idle for lengthy periods, park up the vehicle with a high-voltage battery charge level between 30% and 50%. Do not keep the high-voltage battery continuously connected to power supply equipment.
  • Every six months, when the outside temperature is above 50 °F (10 °C), park the vehicle overnight with a charge level below 20%.
  • Check the high-voltage battery's charge level every six weeks.
  • Charge the high-voltage battery if the charge level is below 20%.
  • Do not disconnect the 12 V battery even if the vehicle is left idle for a lengthy period. Otherwise, the condition of the vehicle's high-voltage battery cannot be monitored.

I store my EQS 2022 for 2 winters (5 months). I manage to have 55% SOC at beginning of storage so it reach 47-48% at end of storage for an average of 50%. There was an OTA at some point that is such that 12V battery is kept properly charge using energy from the HVB. No need to have a trickle charger for me. You can follow the situation with the apps.

Do you lock your vehicle when parked for 5 months?

I have had a horrible experience this summer storing my 2023 EQS in my climate controlled Florida garage. I left with SOC of 63%. It has remained at 63% SOC since May. The 12v battery is giving a very low state of charge with warnings that remote services are no longer working. I have recently got message that internet connection is no longer working. And to top it off I get a message on the app that the right front window is open and brake fluid is low. I had a friend put on a NoCo trickle charger and still the 12v battery won’t recharge. In previous years when the 12v battery discharged the high voltage battery would kick in and recharge the 12 v. Not this summer. And the SOC would always go down a few percentage points while staying at 63% all this summer. The only thing I can think of that changed from last year was I had the car in for windshield replacement and complained that I never get automatic OTA map updates. They said they installed every current module update and MBUX version and maps would update. Well, they didn’t and now the 12 v battery wont charge like it used to. I suspect because the 12v battery is so low, the internet module won’t work and that’s why I’m getting erroneous read outs on low brake fluid, etc.

the last OTA update wouldn’t update because the 12v battery was not fully charged. I brought it in for service and it turned out my 12v was failing and they replaced the battery under warranty. The dealer replaced battery and left the car in lot overnight and the update was successful

I’ve been down that route too. The original 12 v battery has been replaced due to failure. Still no updates. Although the current 12 v battery is discharged, the app reports that the state of health of the battery is good.
