Finally got 580 production slot!

I placed my order in early October in Pittsburgh. MSRP. Just got told production slot is in early to mid June, so with any luck I'll have it by end of July or early August.

Me too. I guess they are finally ramping up 580 production.

I’m still waiting. Put down a deposit June 1. They have no idea when an allocation will come.

That seems crazy. Why is it that others who placed their orders much later than you did, are getting their allocations much sooner?

That’s what I would like to know as well. Unfortunately for me I was 6th on the list for a 580. No one at my dealer has ordered a 450(dealer in RI). I suspect others were higher on the waiting list. I know my dealer has received 2 580’s so far.

Mercedes doesn't manage the order list on a first come first serve basis like Lucid or Tesla.

Mercedes gives out allocations to dealers based on their historical sales volume. In this case probably their historical sales volume of S580 cars. So if you were 10th on the list at a big dealer you might get your car sooner than someone who is 2nd on the list at a small dealer.

When I ordered in April I was 4th on the list at a Medium sized dealer. I thought that would get me an early allocation. I was wrong.

The other thing that is dumb about the Mercedes model is that you have dealers with no orders receiving cars which are going on the lot, while customers with deposits paid almost a year ago are still waiting. Its a totally second rate customer experience.

About 5 years ago I ordered a GLC63 from a rural dealer (because they offered me a deal at invoice). I waited 9 months and was still waiting for an allocation. Then I complained to Mercedes, and they told me they couldn't do anything to get me an allocation, but offered me $6000 instant rebate on any car.

I agree. My dealer has sold quite a few S580’s so I figured they would have 6 580’s allotted by July or so. Not sure of that now. In any case I’m in no hurry and am happy driving my S560 for the time being. But I would hate to get a very late model 2022 vs an early 2023. Who knows when the chip shortage is going to sort out and Mercedes gets back to normal delivery times.

Congrats on the EQS ROBO! Most likely will be 2nd, or 3rd EQS 580 on the streets in Pittsburgh.

"First Come - First Served" goes out the window because of production realities. They don't have the production capacity to make all variations simultaneously. For example, black paint production may have priority over red paint production. So they make a sh*t load of black cars, then white cars, then .... etc, then red bodied cars. 4 Matics may have priority over non-4 Matic chassis. I had an order placed for a red Lucid, but the blacks were getting priority and the reds were to be the last to be made. (I canceled my order BTW).

I got an allocation the next day after ordering in November. That's as far as it has gone... No other news. My guess is I got the allocation since no one else had ordered one through my dealer.

Have you ever visited the factory to see S-class production? Cars are on the line in an absolute random order of colour. Of course this does not mean that they were also painted in random order. I have not visited the site where shells are painted for their final colour but it is obvious that they paint several colours at each day and even Manufaktur colours should not introduce any production delay of several days.

The shortage of some specific parts these days may cause significant delays (before and after the production line) but even this does not seem to explain the odd delivery order that we've seen for the forum members here.

Why did you cancel the Lucid?

what you are saying is true for Lucid and Tesla but not true of Mercedes. Mercedes can make several colors concurrently.

I had a conversation with a dealer this morning which was interesting. He said that they produce cars on the line per the schedule. But if they are missing components they hold it at port and finish it there. This is why some cars are waiting in Bremerhaven for months. He gave me one example of a 21 E class which was produced last April and is being delivered to the customer next week. He said this is not normal but it can happen and is the reason that sometimes cars produced later arrive earlier. It sounds like they prioritize parts for the factory than for the VPC.

Hope none of us have that kind of thing happen to us.

I know that mine has been on the port since about February 1. I sure hope I don’t go through a nightmare of waiting at the port for months.

I ordered mine during the first part of June and was just notified by my dealer that my EQS had been updated to "Produced" not shipped as of 2/15/22. He said as soon as it ships he will share the feed so I can follow the freighter on its way. Let's hope it doesn't catch on fire!

Was in the area and stopped by my dealer today. Got a nice surprise. My 580 is scheduled for build on July 27. Now really getting excited.
I’ve been patiently waiting over a year, but in the mean time I have learned a hell of a lot of information on the car reading the posts in this forum. You guys are truly a source of great information. My salesman even said I probably know more about the car than him because he had his “training” close to a year ago and they have not received many EQS’s in the dealership to learn things hands on.
