Charging cable

I need your help. I purchased EQS 450+ last night from Fletcher Jones. The car was delivered without any charging cables. NONE. They're telling me that the car doesn't come with any, I have to purchase one. They said the window sticker doesn't mention charging cables, so its not included. Other option is that they told me to use my charging cable provided by Audi for my Etron. Did you receive any charging cables?

Yes but they are right, it’s a $250 option. It’s too slow to use anyway, you should look at getting a Level 2 charger installed. Lots of options, I use Tesla’s wall charger with an adapter. ChargePoint Home Flex looks like a great option.

What type of outlet do you have? Do you want something that you mount to the wall or something that is portable?

The slow charger (110V plug in the US) seems not to be standard in the US but the one for a public AC charger must be included? In Europe we have both the single phase charger and the wallbox cable standard even in hybrids.

we get nothing. the only charging kit available for the EQS through Mercedes US is the emergency 110v charger. probably the most ridiculous part of my car purchase. Even my old pre-owned e-tron came with the Audi combo 110/220 charger.

I also have the Tesla Wall Connector hardwired. What adapter are you using to charge the EQS?

The 110 volt charger is, indeed, not included. I used mine until my ChargePoint Homeflex was installed. I found that if I left it on ovenight, it would add about 12% charge, so it is better than worthless, but not near what a wall charger can do. The Audi cable should work also. I assume you already have a wall box, since you had an eTron? Should be no problem.

Mercedes doesn't provide level 2 chargers. Your Audi one would work perfectly.

Most of us have the Chargepoint Flex Home Charger which is the one recommended by Mercedes.

my view is that people should buy chargers separate from the car.

I had a Porsche charger on my wall. Then I had to have a guy come out to remove that, patch the wall and install the Tesla charger when I sold the Porsche. Now I sold the Tesla and got a Mercedes so I had to do it again.

But the good thing is my ChargePoint Flex belongs to me and not the car so it will stay on the wall and charge every subsequent car I buy. Lot more convenient.

No argument about the home charger. However, if you are on the road, you are screwed! The level 1 charger they sell is an insult. Again, Ford Ford includes a level 1 / 2 charger with the Mustang at no additional charge! (Bought one). I just installed a 220 in our lake home garage specifically so I could use the "portable" charger when in the boonies.

Yeah that makes sense - especially if you visit rental properties where a charging port might be provided but no charger. I don't have a portable yet but typically the only place I would overnight on a road trip is a 4 or 5 star hotel and they tend to have their own chargers.

BTW, my neck of the woods is finally going to get non Tesla DC fast chargers👍 Walmart/Electrify America. No use for me, but definitely a bonus for anyone driving to the WI "northwoods".

I would not say the $250 emergency charging cable is useless. I have one with my car before the constraint and since I only drive about 30 miles every few days it is working fine for my situation charging to 80% overnight.. I think the charging is totally dependent on your usage profile. I have a 40 amp circuit breaker ready for a Chargepoint charger if necessary, I am resisting the install since we will sell our house soon.

I agree, it is far better than useless. It sustained me while I got the 220 line/NEMA 6/50 plug installed, and waited three weeks for the backordered ChargePoint to arrive.

Oh awesome, mine's coming tomorrow! Is it really easy to use? Have you had any problems with it? Have you used it at Destination chargers?

I've only had my EQS for a couple of weeks and have only used it twice but so far so good. Haven't tried it with destination chargers but I think they are basically the same as the wall chargers, should work without issue. Won't work with Superchargers, I'm sure the adapter will melt
