What Sized Memory Stick For USB Port….

Are you using for dash camera picture downloads? Does the ESQ store the photos on the memory stick or is it just for later down loads? If the car stores the pictures what is the limit of pictures? I am a bit confused on this topic…..😊

Im using the same thumbnail grive where I keep my music files. A sandisk ultra Fit 512GB it has over 5000 music files including dozens of high rez files and still has enough space for the dashcam images files for days of video clips and still tons of space left over!
The obvious benefit of that type of flash drive is that it doesnt intrude into the storage area at all. Its just a little nub that barely protrudes from the port.

Good idea on the "nub drive". The one I am using is a USB-C/B hybrid and it definitely is a fragile intrusion into the cupholder-bin area. Thanks for sharing.

Size of the drive does not matter since the system loops over the old files.
Disk also works if plugged into the center console and then does not intrude in the cup holder area.

128gb is what I'm using. The dashcam only records in 1080p so it stores many hours of looped video.

You got me confused. My car is currently in transit so I can’t physically see the USB ports, but I thought they had the newer USB-C ports . This is a USB-B device isn’t it?

yes that response makes no sense. The car only has USB-C ports and Sandisk does not make a USB-C nub drive.

I use a right angle USB-C port extended cable and then the sandisk ultra luxe dual drive which is a 1TB all metal USB-C drive.

The car comes with a short cable USB adapter. Minimal intrusion. You are correct, as of yet there are no mini USB-C flash drives

That makes sense to me now. Like I said I’m still waiting for delivery of my 580 so I haven’t seen the inside of an EQS in quite a while. Sat 30 days at the port awaiting a ship and when finally left Bremerhaven is currently at anchor outside Southampton port for the last 4 days. Meanwhile I have tracked several car carriers in and out of the port while my ship remains at anchor. Frustrating.

Lots of USB-C flash drives are available. Purchased SAMSUNG Type-C™ USB Flash Drive, 128GB, for $19 @ Amazon. Works in the ESQ.

That's is a nice form factor, but too little capacity. For a dash cam you want a lot of capacity. I use 1TB.

I thought that also when I first purchased an aftermarket dash cam for my S class and bought a large capacity sd card. It loop records and honestly I have yet to review a video so I have no idea how many days of images I have stored. For me I would only look at the video if something happened (like an accident, etc) that I needed to review, so I’m really not interested in reviewing mundane videos that don’t contain any important info on them. So when my 580 finally makes it’s way to me I may buy a smaller capacity storage device.

Are you using the MB’s built-in dashcam (is it 1080p or 2K)? 1TB is a lot and, IMHO, is an overkill for many people.

I am using an aftermarket dashcam (front 4K and rear 1080p). With an 128GB SD card, I can get about 4 hours of continuous recording at the highest quality level. Then, it loops.
Of course, in parking mode, it will get much longer, depending on which parking modes I choose. (I am too lazy to get an 256GB card...lol)

BTW, if anyone is interested in that form factor, the max size I can find is 128GB (with MB logo if specified, as a bonus)

Will one of these USB to USB C converter work? Then I can get a 2TB USB drive and use it with one of these.

There is no reason why a converter would not work., however, as others have pointed out, a 2TB drive is overkill by about a factor of 4.
