I would not want to lose control over this.

I assume you are pressing the button each time though? The title states automatically so I assume OP wants them to automatically unfold when driving which isn't a feature, just the lock/unlock function.

There are two principal implementations for automatically unfolding the mirrors. Depending on the brand they unfold when the car is unlocked, that's how it works in all MB vehicles, or when you start the engine/turn on the car. The Mercedes way is inherently safer. Let's say you unlock your car, then get it, close the car and then realize you forgot something, so you swing open the door again w/o a mirror to check if a cyclist or whatever is approaching from behind and bam! Unfolding the mirrors upon unlocking doesn't have this problem and it also allows the exit assist to deploy which beeps and flashes the blind spot warning if you open the door with something in your blind spot.

It is not valid for me when I get into my car in my garage. When I leave my car in the garage, I lock it. If I don't, I get a message on my phone telling me the car is unlocked, asking me if I want to lock it. This I do from the phone. When I go out to the garage, I open the door, get in WITH THE MIRRORS STILL FOLDED, and when ready, with seat belt on, and seat in the driving position, I back out WITH THE MIRRORS STILL FOLDED so I don't hit the garage door opening with mirror. Once out of the garage, I unfold the mirrors tusing the mirror actuation butter to do so I can use them to make sure that with my rearwheel steering, I don't back into a brick column in the wall around my garage courtyard area.

99% of garage doors are 10 feet wide. Why would Mercedes have the mirrors open and close the way you want them to on a situation that is one in a million?

Are you trying to say something about how I drive into and out of my garage?
Or just making what you consider to be a pithy general (but irrelevant for me) observation?
Or something else?

This is laughable. Your garage door is not the standard width so you expect all car makers to adapt to you. Entitled much?

Your example is valid for the situation you describe.

In my Florida home, I have a three car garage. One double and one single door. I believe the single door is also 8 ft wide, as my golf cart fits in just fine. The double door is obviously wider.
I should also note my brother who lives down the street has 2 single car garages. Both are 8 ft wide.

How do you know anything about my garage doors?
Why do you make false and completely unsupported statements about what I expect from auto makers?

Ever since my then-not-alarmed garage was broken into when we were out of town, with resulting damage to the glove compartment and theft of a radar detector from my Bristol S-2 I have locked my garage.
What you do is your business; what I do is mine, and, while you may have questions, it's not your privilege to judge my actions.

I at least am not judging. Just suggesting not to lock your car. There are ways to secure a garage. Zip tie the emergency release so it can't be opened with a wire hook and using a mechanical latch from the inside to lock the garage door when out of town or even overnight. Those are things you can change and control, but you can't change how the mirror unfolding works.
I have not once complained about the way the mirrors function. I have merely described my experiences.
I never asked for suggestions.

If you don't believe me, look at what one of the largest garage door manufacturers has to say on the topic.

Before reading this topic I was sure that it was possible to fold mirrors at low speed. I need this option to comfortably navigate in underground parking entrance which often are quite narrow.
This is not good, I live in Europe and having a wide car sometimes is problematic, folding mirrors it's really helpful. Many cars just have a button to fold them.
Nothing can be done?

Cannot speak to how Europe EQS models are configured vis-a-vis mirror controls, but my mirror adjustments pad has a fold/unfold button.

There is obviously a button to fold the mirrors.
The OP would like the mirrors told fold and unfold based on location similar to the GPS 360deg camera.
It sounds like an easy fix that could be done with an easy software implementation… but that will never happen with Mercedes.

I'm aghast! Everything is not bigger in Texas! I just went out and measured my garage doors, and they are, indeed, 8 feet wide. However, I must say that, at age 72, my wife and I easily manage to get our two Mercedes in and out of them with the mirrors unfolded. Indeed, due to limitations in our flexibility, we watch the mirrors to gague excatly where the car is in relation to the side of the doors (and ignore all the warnings going off, relying on our eyes). All we have to do is clear the mirrors to get safely in and out. If I folded them, I'm not sure I could do it. (BTW, my wifes car is a 2021 AMG GLE 53). I'm not attempting to pass judgement, just saying that an 8 foot garage door does not seem to be an insurmountable obstacle. Having said that, I do wish the OP could get his wish to have them automatically fold, but pushing a button is not that big an annoyance, is it?

EQS mirror to mirror is 7 feet. A whole foot left with an 8 feet wide garage.

My garage was building roughly 100 years ago.
When I drive my 450 in with the mirrors folded, I estimate about 6” max clearance on each side.

With my C63S coupe I have 7" on each side. Maybe that 1" makes a difference, but it seems plenty of space. The door is 8 feet, but the actual opening is only 94". Inside, the garage is 9.5' tandem but still have to get through the opening. I've had SUV loaners and it isn't much of a problem. I actually park as far to the right as I can to leave enough room to get past on the left and give me enough room with the long coupe doors to get out of the car. I usually leave about an inch between the mirror and the wall. I pretty much rely on the 360 camera. Lining up the red line on the side with the right side of the door and the wall gets me there no problem.
