Garage door via geofencing

Is there a way to activate opening a garage door or gates via the EQS 2023 580 Sedan GPS position (Geofencing)?

If you are into smart home stuff and have myQ or similar for your garage/gate then yes, you can use Home Assistant to integrate Mercedes me with myQ and trigger the garage to open when the car enters a geofence. It is not super reliable, though, because the car only periodically reports its current position, so when I played with it, sometimes it didn't detect that I entered the geofence until I was all the way in front of my garage and ended up manually opening it. It seemed like a good idea at first, but I eventually abandoned it. Didn't really add that much value, especially if it sometimes didn't work.

Here's a thread with some guidance to setup up Home Assistant, HACS and the Mercedes me custom component.

Thanks for your reply superswiss. I am somewhat surprised it isn't a feature of their "luxury" car. I will just use the buttons on the mirror that they have provided for many years. They do work reliably.

Tesla is the only one I'm aware of that has this feature built in. Audi has a similar feature, but it doesn't automatically open the garage door. Instead since Homelink is integrated into the touch screen it brings it up on the display as you enter a geofence, so you can tap it to open the garage. I ended up realizing that I don't really like my garage to open before I have a line of sight and I mostly open it from my smartphone these days, which then also disarms my alarm system and unlocks the door to the house.

Hah! I have all 3 of these set up already and was considering trying this. Not surprised the latency makes it unusable unfortunately.

I did notice that I could integrate MyQ into my EQS

https://support.chamberlaingroup.com...-Benz-with-myQ

and that succeeded - but I have no idea and can’t find what the actual voice commands to open a garage are…

Hopefully this can be done with a software update, as the outside camera can be geofenced so that it pops up when at a particular location. I set it to automatically turn on as I enter and exit my building's garage to avoid hitting the curbs. Works like a charm.

Unfortunately though, my building's garage gate is not compatible with my EQSs Homelink transmitter so I have to carry and use my garage remote to open the garage gate.

You need to use Home Assistant for geo-fencing automatic opening. There is a topic on the GLE forum.
You may wish to make your inquiry to Chamberlain. Here is a link to their article.
Beyond that have you tried simple commands such as open garage? After all, MBUX Linguatronic is an AI self learning system.

Yeah, I would also think the voice commands should be natural and straight forward, such as "Hey Mercedes, open my garage". That's what they are with Apple Homekit. I can say "Hey Siri, open my garage". The article gives an example for checking if the garage is closed: “Hey Mercedes, did I forget to close my garage door at home?”. So as expected, pretty natural commands.

If you don’t want to keep saying “Hey Mercedes” over and over you can just press the voice button on the right side of the steering wheel and then give your command.

I've read those articles. I am not trying to do geofencing, since HomeAsssistant requires some programming and dont want to do that. I do have the homelink button connected, but I'd prefer I speak to the car and it opens the garage door before I enter the driveway. (I have a 45 ft sliding gate). I did try all voice commands (open garage door, is my garage door open, open MYQ door, etc..) but none worked. I called chamberlain and they told me I have to call Mercedes to get the commands, they didn't know. I will find the number and give them a call tomorrow I guess.

I would say that this sounds like the myQ integration isn't actually working. I highly doubt that you need to know some secret specific commands to use it. The whole point of the Hey Mercedes system is that it is a natural language system.

Oh, the other thing that just came to mind, have you ever done a full map update via the Mercedes me connect web portal? The full map update also includes updates to the voice recognition system. The OTA update only updates the map for your home region, but doesn't update the voice recognition.

The Chamberlain article also states that the linked voice capability is on some Mercedes models, not all models.

I would assume since my car was able to successfully link with MYQ and it shows message also, that is should work with the voice commands.

I called mercedes connect customer service for my car at 855-502-3851 and they are passing issue on to the team that handles garage door integration and they will follow up. I will post updates as/when I get them

I called them back and was told that looks like this feature is not available in the US market, same as the open/closing doors in the car. Reading the article again it does say Chamberlain Group, has joined forces with Mercedes-Benz AG, which from what rep told me indicates it's the european division. Of course when I mentioned that it's integrated with the MYQ App it just doesnt do anything when I give it command to open garage door, to take it to the dealership and see if that may be a 'software' or update issue.

Yes, Mercedes-Benz AG is the German division, but that doesn't mean anything. Obviously that's who they have to join up with to develop the integration. However, in each market the local Mercedes representation is responsible for supporting any and all features, and MBUSA has been reluctant to support many of the features that are available in other markets. For example for us AMG owners there's an app for the phone that works in conjunction with AMG Track Pace in the car and lets you analyze your track performance and upload new tracks to the car etc. MBUSA is refusing to support the app, so we are SOL for now. There are other companion apps for example the remote parking app that MBUSA simply doesn't wanna support, so it's not available here. I'm guessing it's the same situation with the myQ integration. The car software supports it, which is probably why you were able to pair it, but the service is disabled, because MBUSA doesn't wanna answer phone calls from people who are having issues. But if there are more folks like you that get halfway with it and then end up calling them anyway then it's kinda backfiring for them.

Well said superswiss. I also believe/hope if everyone calls about these missing features they may actually do som

ething about it. Interesting you mentioned the AMG track, my car shows that service as available to purchase.

Yes, but that's only the part that runs on MBUX. It lets you record your own tracks, times etc., but you can't add new tracks that they've already mapped out. For example mine only has the Nürburgring preinstalled. Which was fine during my European Delivery trip, but not very useful here in the USA since all the US tracks are missing. The phone app is required to install other tracks.

Ah got it. I have not purchased since no tracks near me. Overall it does suck when the features are advertised but not available in the us.

I have not seen a US advertisement for any of the EU features that are not available in the US market including remote parking, power doors, cell phone as a key, ... though those features and similar ones are widely discussed on forums and in magazine articles.
