Fingerprint Use

Can someone explain the purpose for the fingerprint system on the 2023 eqs 580 sedan? Has anyone used it?
Thank you

I believe you can set up the EQS system to remember the settings for up to seven drivers. These include seat and steering wheel positions. Once set up to identify a particular person you can use a PIN code, facial recognition or the fingerprint recognition. Someone correct me if I am incorrect.

that is correct. You don’t want to be entering your pin when other people are in the car. Facial recognition is challenging with masks. In addition to above mentioned recognition methods it will also authorize you by voice recognition.

Mine is still on order, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can before delivery:

If you are the only driver, would there be a reason to authenticate yourself as the user each time you use the vehicle?

No. I don't, I just start the car and drive. If your dealer sets up a MercedesME account on your phone, it will show as an user account in the car, but I just ignore it and if you do not choose a user, it defaults to none. If you use a profile sometimes and not other times, you might start your car to different settings, like what music (source) you were listening to, so just don't choose one.

That is not true.
Its starts with the last user profile. So if there is only one profile, the car will start with those profile settings if you log in or not.
I only have one profile and I use the face recognition. All my settings are immediately loaded as soon as I start the car and sometimes the car take a minute before it logs in my profile.

If there are multiple profiles it will load the last loaded profile's settings that was used until the new profile logs is via finger print, passcode, or facial recognition.

No, you stated how it could work if someone were to do something different from what you do.
Your post would lead readers to believe that they could potentially have problems if they were to use a profile as a sole driver… That is not true… your post was extremely misleading!
You didn’t claim to be making that statement based on experience so therefore I am not calling you a liar. But your statement was based on ignorance so your statement was pure FUD!

correct, however, despite saying you can have multiple profiles I have found it impossible to do so.

Each driver needs to set up their own Mercedes Me profile in their own cell phone and then sync to the ESQ for the system to work properly. Yes?

I don't see what the big deal is about setting up a profile. Like many have said that if you use Mercedes Me app then you need a profile to connect to the car. Mercedes Me app has few helpful features for charging, Remote locking and Unlocking, Notifications if the car is left unlocked, Notification If someone hits your car while parked somewhere and there are probably many more benefits. I renamed my profile to Darling and I and my passengers get a kick when we enter the car and it greets as Hello Darling! I change the name to what ever the mood strikes. If you set it up once with facial recognition then you don't have to use the finger print at all. 30 seconds or so after you start driving it will recognize your face and load the profile on its own. Other Big benefit I see and it has been discussed in another thread, My wife is much shorter than I and I can't get in the car after she has been driving. So scanning my fingerprint while standing outside loads the profile if you don't have the memory seats stored. Fingerprint scanner sometimes doesn't work if your hands are wet or dirty. So I fail to see the problem with setting up the profile. Yeah it can be a lot to put the finger on a square box(Sarcasm).

Doesn't work! The car only allows one profile. Ive tried a million different ways not even the dealer can figure it out. On my GLS its a different version of the same thing. On the GLS the car will accept the additional profile, but only the account holder can use the remote features like starting the car. On the EQ, you cant even add another user since you have to use the app to do it abd the app again only allows the primary user. Its a total f%ckup.

That is not my experience. I have my profile and then my wife created a profile from inside the car by using Add new user. Later when I installed the Mercedes Me app on her phone and she scanned the barcode on the Hyperscreen it created another profile for her in the car. She is able to do all actions from her phone that I can from mine. Now only problem I have is that I have two profiles for her and can't figure out how to delete one.

Not sure why you're having this issue. Hope this helps though. In the APP, go to MY GARAGE by clicking the vehicle directly under your Mercedes Me name and for me, email address. There, you will see "Manage Users". You should see "Add user". For me, in doing this, I was able to add my wife to my EQS and me to her GLE53. After I believe the car is synced, you should see both profiles to choose from. For the second user, since it's new and not set up, you will need to configure the settings for that user.

Only slightly off topic. Does everyone have facial recognition? During initial setup my 450+ only set up voice (which it doesn't seem to recognize) and fingerprint - no facial recognition. I'm uncertain if it is only in some trims/models or if it's one of those things left off due to chip shortages. I have Premium Trim, i.e. the lowest level. Thanks.

I believe we all do. Its part of the "alertness" system. If in doubt, simply take a vid of the drivers gauges screen. The vid will show the red flashing lights in front of you.

Yes. My first EQS was a premium. I had facial recognition setup. It works well. I always use the facial recognition, and have the fingerprint setup as a backup.

2022 EQS 450+, pinnacle trim
I have the pinnacle package on eqs450+ , 2022 but dont see a facial recognition option for the profile either (only pin or fingerprint). For the folks using facial recognition how did you set that up?
