I hope it gets pinned so new members will get good info with good vids. It covers everything, wiring, EVSE's, plugs and good reviews.

EQS 450+
That video is just about charging adapters, so if you don't want any more threads, I wouldn't claim that video as the end-all-be-all solution. I would open the thread up to other charging related questions, for example, I have one that I ran into:

Does the EQS have any way to precondition the battery for charging? I drove over to the nearby 350kw charger last night, temps were in the low 50s, and the car was at 18% charge. It started charging at 145kw, and went down from there. About 15 minutes in, it suddenly went from about 132kw up to almost 160, where it started to slow down again as it reached 80%. I believe if the battery was properly preconditioned, it would have started its charge closer to the maximum 200kw.

Someone stated that if you go to the road map and choose the station that you are traveling to the EQS will automatically start the pre-condition process. Manually……No.

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago and got same answer. Was told no need for preconditioning for home charger but for DC chargers, yes. And to do it use the navigation function. I was in RI at the time with temps in the 30’s. I just got the car to SE Florida with temps in the 80’s. Haven’t driven it enough yet to see the increase in range but I have noted the SOC decreases much more slowly than when I had it up north.

You first press the physical “EQ” button on the center arm rest board which will put the “Consumption” screen on the Center Touch Screen. Then touch “Charging” near the upper center of that screen. The following screen will have the “HV Bat. Pre-Temp Control “ on the bottom right of that screen. This is on the 580 SUV. The Sedan may be different.

My EQS 450+ doesn't look like that at all. What model and year is your car?

No Mercedes yet
If you set this feature ("High-Voltage Battery Pre Temp. Control") the system will even pop up a message - about 10 minutes before you reach your charging station - saying that it's starting to warm up the battery.

2023 580 SUV. Interesting, I would have thought the displays would be the same on Sedans and SUV’s. Certainly the software is similar. Do you have the “EQ” button anywhere?

Have to check! I almost always use the screen EQ menu.

I have noticed that newer models have firmware versions with newer features that are not brought back to older cars. For example, I have one of the first 450+'s, when you could order one with the MBUX. I purchased the dashcam feature, and on my car, the feature doesn't have a setting option so you can enable auto record - and the feature, itself, has to be renewed annually for $200!

Do not fall into the fallacy that MB maintains their software the same way that Tesla, Polestar and the newer EV manufacturers do. MB is still a legacy car manufacturer that focuses on the next model year and planned obsolescence.

But I still love my EQS.

Off topic but:

Mercedes usually does not bring new features to their cars. On the MBUX generation however they have brought small feature updates, even a bigger one: the zero layer approach. The difference to Tesla (so far at least) is that only limited updates are handled over the air.

Sounds like your MBUX SW is not up to date, have you checked? After MBUX update (at the dealer) you should have the option to activate dash cam automatically.

Yup, actually got my car back from the dealership back in late December after it died of a software bug, left there for nearly 2 months. One of the solutions was to make certain I had all of the latest software. I did notice a few small changes. I actually now have some matrix LED light features, for example. But I don't have the updated splash screen and my dashcam still has the same issues.

I am not fretting too much, though... my new 2023 580 is coming into port now.

Fair enough. Lucky you.

But for the benefit of others it would have been useful if you had read the SW version from your car. At least it would tell if the missing feature could be because of old MBUX SW or if the issue for some odd reason exists with the current/latest MBUX SW.

Mine is not the latest version of the software, as delineated on this board. I do not have this feature on my 450+. It would be nice to know if someone with a 2022 EQS which has been updated to the lateest software version (329, I think) has this innovative software feature. Mine, (316 version, I think) does not have it.

SirNH, and others. I have the latest SW on my '22 450+ I've seen mentioned here, (329) but these features: "some matrix LED light features, for example. But I don't have the updated splash screen and my dashcam still has the same issues.) are Greek to me. Sorry not to be able to comment on them.
