Mercedes Wallbox

The actual outlet was installed by yours truly! The builder had left the unhooked wiring in a box. I would assume that they installed GFCI too. I will double check.
Thanks for the details and the links. I was looking at the same Amazon product, except 10 ft works better for my need. Sounds like no safety concerns (or code violation) with adding a plug to the Wallbox and using the Nema outlet?

Are the built in chargers in Mercedes newest vehicles capable of 11.5kW charging? Because, most of us have a 9.6kW charger in our vehicles, so it doesn't matter that the Mercedes Wallbox says it can produce 11.5kW.....at 50amps my Chargepoint will still charge my car just as fast. Unless I am misunderstanding, a 60amp hardwired wallbox will still only charge my car at the maximum my built in charger allows....9.6kW. Am I missing something?

Right, 9.6kW / 240 volts = 40 amps. That's the max your car will draw regardless. What you're missing is that for continuous use you need to multiply by 125% to meet code (resistance goes up with heat), so 40 amp * 1.25 = 50 amp outlet. Or conversely, if you're using a 30 amp dryer outlet you should only draw 24 amps https://splitvolt.com/products/cgb-nema-14-30-24-amp

I bought the NEMA 14-30 24 amp charger (above) for my dryer outlet and a NEMA 14-50 adapter just in case I ever visit an RV campground, which is the only place I've ever seen one of those outlets.

And quite frankly it's stoopidity like this that's hampering EV adoption. As a new EV owner my first problem was "how do I charge faster at home" because it became immediately apparent the included 120V Mercedes charger wasn't going to work for a daily driver. Instead of helping solve that problem everyone wanted to create a new problem for me, "how do I install a NEMA 14-50 outlet". None of this problem solving would have been necessary if they had just included an overnight charger I could actually use from the start.

When I first got my EQS (over 2 years ago), I was waiting for the electrician appointment to put the 50 amp 240 line in, and ChargePoint to ship my wallbox, all I had was the 110v charger Mercedes gave me. I found that, as my DD, I was using about 12% of the battery each day, and if I plugged in all the time I was not driving, it would almost match that 12%, with maybe a little more on days I didn't drive much. So, it kept me afloat for the two weeks it took to get my ChargePoint hooked up and going. There was some stress, but it's not completely useless........ Of course, my glass has always been half-full.....

I have the same question as @EQS580SUV. I would like to use an existing Nema 14-50 outlet. Considering using a 10 ft long cord. Has anyone tried that? Any concerns with using a cord or “extension” as I’ve read that direct hardwiring is better/preferred. I would think it’s fine but this Reddit thread is throwing me off.
Amazon link to the 14-50 Cord 10 ft.
Amazon link to the 14-50 Cord 10 ft.
I always worry about EV fire in the garage so i installed a smoke detector on top of the wallbox and above the EQS and another one outside the bedrooms. They all linked together. better to be safe than sorry.

I did it and it worked like a charm, Used a 4 prong, but, there was no terminal in the Mercedes Wall box for a neutral, Just L1, L2, and Ground. So a 3 Prong would work fine, Stick with as short of a cable as possible. Terminal was a bit tricky, but figured it out. Ultimately decided against the whole thing as the Mercedes Wall Box Charge cable was a bit Shorter than needed to reach the EQS. I therefore reverted to the APEX box, which offered a longer cable. Conclusion: Avoid a Plug in application, if possible, but it can be done with the proper 14/50 cable for a plug in application and its beautiful, just make sure the charge cable reaches the car charging port first, LOL. Quite an experience. Now, I'm Selling the Mercedes Wall box, if anyone is interested. Local SoCal Pick up $499.

Thanks for sharing! Since you've owned both the ChargePoint Home Flex and the MB Wallbox (EVBox Livo), which would you pick? I just submitted for the free MB Wallbox, but may sell it to buy a subsidized $300 CharePoint Home Flex instead.

Hey - so for anyone following this thread - I posted in February on this thread asking for the Wallbox link because I thought my car (eqb 300) qualified for free wallbox but it didn't, it was just EQE 500 and EQS I believe. I inputted my VIN and got error message. Well now the promotion for March is I believe ANY EQ Mercedes qualifies for wallbox - which my salesman told me when I was there last week helping my dad lease an EQE 500. I told salesman I didn't get one - and he suggested trying again anyways. Well I did and it worked! It's been shipped and arrives tomorrow.
So for anyone that bought an electric Benz last few months and didn't qualify at the time, doesn't hurt I think to try again. I got my eqb 300 on Jan 31, tried inputting Vin a few times in Feb and it failed, and when I put it in again on March 4th it worked. Hope this helps someone out!

Both are good L2 charger. Since i used the Mercedes Wallbox i noticed max charging current is 9.4/9.5 kwh. the Chagepoint is 9.5/9.6 kwh. i don't see any different in charge time.

Chargepoint Homeflex have more setting options which is very useful, Mercedes wallbox's setting are limited but can be used with your Merecedes Me app. It also looks pretty on the wall next to your Mercedes. ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

How do you schedule a charge at home with the mercedes wallbox? The video online shows a schedule option in the Mercedes Me wallbox settings but I don't see this option on my app.
