Traded my 2022 EQS 580+

OK, traded my EQS which was $137K new in July 2022. 26,000 miles on it, Mercedes winter wheel and tire package, weather tech mats, and 9 year ceramic coat. Leased (because of the $7500 rebate from Feds) a new GLE 450e. The dealer initially would only give me $51,000 for the trade, but after some complaining, and I'm a good customer, he settled for $58,000. On my new GLE $91.5K , I was able to negotiate the $7500 plus $3000 cash back from Sam's Club and an additional $2500 off of MSRP from the dealer. I have owned over 40 cars over the years and never have I had such a drop in residual value as I had with the EQS. I loved the car but with my age and multiple surgeries over the last couple of years found it difficult to enter and exit. Won't probably buy another EQS because of the financial hit.

BTW if you are thinking of purchasing a new car from Mercedes check out Sam's Club. They are offering $11,000 - $12,000 buyers rebate off EQS!!! Huge money if combined with the dealer incentives!!

Most all EVs today should really only be leased.

I going to buy a used Maybach EQS SUV with cash next year for way under $100K. Nobody is going to want a CCS vehicle when all the 2025 models are equipped with NACS. I'll just chuck the minifridge in a dumpster then should be fine for hauling stuff around.

Crito, hit me up when you decide to get the Maybach. We can go shopping together and maybe get a two for one deal. But man, 58K for the trade is a staggering lost. But you only live once. Enjoy it.

I just did a cars dot com search and there were no 2022s in a 200 mile radius but used 2023s were selling for considerably more than that. I'm not so sure $58K was fair:

Maybe the extra miles justifies

If you sell like the op did, it's a huge hit. But don't forget, folks, if you are enjoying and keeping your car, the depreciation does not matter.

2022 EQS 450+ Pinnacle
Definitely a big hit. My dealer offered me $48k for my 2022 450+ that had an MSRP of $117k in 2022. I politely passed as I am unwilling to take that hit. I agree that the trade will be tough in the future with the change to the NACS standard and the depletion of the battery capacity and I kind of wish I had leased instead of bought, but I plan to keep mine for years so long as it doesn't have any major issues. Good thing I love my car because I am all in! Lol.

If you search Nationwide you will see that 2022 EQS's are selling for around $60k for Buyback/Lemon cars and around $70k for Lightly optioned cars.

I'd definitely buy a used 2022 instead of leasing a 2023 or 2024 then. Leasing a new one makes no sense.

That is some eye-watering depreciation.

Why not stick with an electric vehicle, whether MB or another brand?

Well, EQ depreciation is bad, but the above is a lemon/branded title car. I clicked through their used cars, and they have a bunch of EQS cars, all lemons (at least the four I clicked through). Odd business for a Nissan dealer to be in.

Lemons are very cost effective. Good deals usually but hard to sell later on. I bought a lemon once. Was a perfect car - Porsche had addressed the original issues and it was flawless. When it came to selling it, was very hard, eventually I consigned it with the lemon dealer I bought it from and they sold it within a week for a $5000 commission.

That said most people don't buy lemons and that's why they are so cheap.

Tesla is offering me $70K for my 2023 EQE 500 SUV by the way. I paid a little over $100K for it a year ago.

.. and the Model X dual motor (non plaid) is $20K less now, $80K instead of $100K. So 10 grand gets me into one. I almost feel guilty. Maybe I should order the $12K full self-driving just to make myself feel better.

I think this might be the end for me and Mercedes.. and Geico. Seriously I think the Tesla insurance is just as important to me as their charging network. Car insurance based on how you drive instead of your credit score, what a concept! I'm surprised duh gubmint hasn't outlawed it yet.

exactly unless you can write the lease off. Buying a used EV is the route. 👍

30% annualized depreciation is eye-wateringly higher than nearly all models. Conclusion: don't buy an EQ model!

EQS
that's one heck of a depreciation.... ouch!!!!
I bought my EQS SUV 580 new for $138k, probably not the wisest but I am keeping it for 4-5 years easily, I love it
I bought my mother a 2022 EQS 450 sedan for $58k and it had 10k miles so I was REALLY happy getting a quality car for nearly $50k off MSRP with only 10k miles

If you are in the market for an EV, there's no better value than a used EV right now

That's actually quite normal for a high-end Mercedes and people have been complaining about it since before they made EVs.

Moral of story: don't buy a luxury car new if you're worried about depreciation.

Can you share the link where you initiated a request for the trade-in value towards a Tesla Vehicle?

I would never do what you are contemplating, but.....to each his own. The Model X is the best looking Tesla, in my opinion, but still no match in my opinion to the EQS. But, your car, your choice, and I wish you well. I love my EQS.

OP,

Other the depreciation, is there anything you didn’t like (or wasn’t what you expected) in the EQS?

I almost got one last year but couldn’t get over the egg-shape exterior, but I still believe it’s an awesome car.

I went from plaid to eqs to Lucid Air GT
I think the lucid is the best overall EV on the current Market . Amazing drive- built well- incredibly fast. The only issue would be some glitchy software. The ride is second to none.
