The world wasn’t ready for the EQS (article)
Low key high tech, my friends. I don't tell strangers in the streets I spent 6 figures on an EQS AMG for them to stroke my ego. Prestige is a widespread perception about the S Class. Most people I know thinks it is just a nice car from MB.
While the EQS may be a failure from a sales perspective, it's a winner for MB because the technologies will be in other future models. From a design perspective, the design language of the EQS is also not a failure . You can already see some parts of the EQS design language in other MB line ups particularly in the rear ends or quarter rear. Also the interiors.

I am so glad my wife talked me out of purchasing an electric car back in 22. And my old boss begged me to lease it if I needed to have one. They were both correct. Good luck to Jaguar going full electric. It might be the cause of their demise.

Yes a few years ago when it came out we called it the jellybean, egg, (there was one more word), but as always with cars, seeing it in person wasn't that bad. I still wish it looked closer to the concept but I actually don't hate the design of this production EQS although I will always drool for the concept EQS' look.
Went to the air museum today and parked across from an EQS. Told the wife I needed to look at a piece of art before we went in and looked it over. As we were walking in I realized that I had left my phone in the car and went back. When I was back at my car, the owner of the EQS showed up and as he about to get in, I asked him how he liked it. With a broad smile, he said it was his 18th Mercedes and his first electric one and he said he loved it. My wife said based on his expression he was quite pleased to talk about the car. As the saying goes, "Ask the man who owns one..."

Understandable this is an EQS thread, but since someone mentioned crash testing and apparently google read my mind and these two videos showed up on my feed and is less than a day old, I will post them here, although out of respect to OP I will end this unrelated discussion now after this post.

Still have not watched these videos, but will do so...been traveling. Interesting counterpoint today though...https://insideevs.com/news/765522/ch...ty-rating-evs/
I couldn't agree more! So what if the mileage from the concept car would have been less, people who bought the EQS did so with discretionary funds, paying a few dollars more for electricity would not phase most, IMHO. Something close to the looks of the concept car would have outsold all of the competition. MB went all-in trying to beat the competition in drag coefficient and basically did lead the pack, but at a high cost to looks.

One of the members at my golf club has one. It is truly stunning! My main issue is, should I need some kind of service, I would have to get the car to DFW or Houston from San Antonio. That is worrisome.
Yeah we luckily have a Lucid center about 15 miles from here. I drove the Air, I prefer how the EQS drives. The air is firmer and sportier (no air suspension), its very space efficient though. We will consider the new Lucid Gravity to replace the Pacifica PHEV next year (it has air suspension)

Yes, Lucid is kinda like Bentley. Bentley is for those who want their ultra-luxury car to offer a more driver-focused experience with sporty handling, whereas RR is opulence and comfort for those who want a serene ride and not feel and hear anything. But with the EQS if you want more sporty, you can go for the AMG variant.
Yeah I could totally see the Continental comparison
I too would find the motor whine irritating. My understanding is that it came from the front motor so wasn't present in the RWD Pures and it's also my understanding that they reduced it in more recent years. But it wasn't just the whine there was more road noise coming into the cabin.
I don't know about the other variant, but the EQS AMG has a faint whine at around 75 mph if you have the music off and listen for it. Perhaps the lack or reduced road noise allows one to hear the whine.
