This is not a faint whine! They have refined it, but the research I have done the whine is intentional in Lucid products...

Some electric cars are so silent, that pedestrians can’t hear them coming. They might walk right in front of one. It’s incumbent on the driver of these silent cars, to now expect that pedestrians will blunder their way to right in front of you. The same can be said about pedestrians wearing headsets, around any type of vehicular traffic.

Are maneuvering sounds mandatory? What about the decibels, is there a regulation for that one?

EVs and hybrids now have to make a sound at low speeds to pedestrians can hear them. Thats not the whine we're talking about with the Lucid.

Yes our Niro EV makes a pedestrian warning noise during low speed forward and a beeping in reverse.

Having said that, that is one of the things I like about the EQS is that it doesn't make a sound that you can hear in the cabin. Thinking it probably doesn't make one outside either can't say for sure but assuming that is the case, to @MB2timer s point, that puts the burden on a driver to be mindful of pedestrian's lack of awareness of the presence of the car that they might have otherwise if it made the noise of an ICE.

Agree on the not hearing the sound inside the cabin.

It is a motor whine or artificially generated or purposely less insulated so it is audible outside? We don't have a lot of Lucid here but there is a showroom (display room) in a popular mall.

23' EQS AMG
The electric motor whine at 75 mph I'm talking about is a super high frequency sound that is associated with all electric motors. As for the low speed, the AMG EQS and likely other variants have a "spaceship" like hum from the exterior speaker when parked (motor on) or driving 20 mph or below. That particular hum can be heard inside the car. Whether that sound is heard through the cabinet or reproduced by the interior speakers is beyond my investigative hearing capabilities. At first experience, I was unhappy by a "humming" sound at 20 mph and lower speed in what is suppose to be a super quiet car. Going faster, the car is quieter. I've gotten over it.

Everything about the EQS is spaceship like per my daughter's suggestion. If it wasn't rolling on 4 tires, she said it might well be a space age vehicle. It makes transformer like sound with the alarm off and on, it's super quiet inside, and when in sport and sport+ mode, the sound it makes upon pressing the accelerator is NOT an engine sound, but some sci-fi soundtrack of sort of a power source increase power. So yeah, V8, v12, those raw exhaust notes from the pistons at idle sound really antique and lawn mower like. Hearing it rev it higher now makes me cringe because it feels like a blunt machete going through meat. But F1 is still intoxicating because it sounds refined like a katana.

I see so we can call that the "Lucid" experience.

Its not fake but it’s engineered into Lucid’s motor design

Tesla, EQS, Rivian, Hyundai EVs, BMW EVs none of them have the same sound

One of my neighbors has the Cadillac EV and it sound like music being played as it drives down the street.
Consumers Reports gave that car a terrible rating, especially in reliability.

Yeah outside but you don’t hear that in the cabin. That’s designed to alert pedestrians that a car is there. We’re talking about electric motor whine.

I guess that is how they distinguish themselves nowadays, through the best tunes. Before it was engine sound like amg and m now it is whoever makes the best cabin noise or outside noise. Since we are talking about motor sounds, Ferraris are not selling, maybe because they (the customers) still want an ICE, obviously different car for different folks, customers who want luxury more than sporty in this segment will be looking at Bentleys

Other than that, I appreciate the quietness of the EQS when I just want a relaxing drive.

A lot of people Love the motor sound of the Lucid, I’m told it’s much quieter in the Gravity

I am curious how Ferrari will engineer the sound of electric motors.

Ferrari will just stay the course of ICE/hybrid. Too many of their customers and prospects still drink the v8/v12 lawn mower sounds.

Nothing wrong with wanting the drama and engagement of an engine in a sports car. I love EVs but I wouldn’t want an EV Ferrari.

Wow, depreciation on electric cars is probably the worst I have ever seen.

Lesson learned. If you want a EV, lease it.

At least the door handle pops out immediately at 1:26 after he touches it. Seems some people are struggling with this on their W223.

purchase of car at big discount end of lease

At the end of our lease I recently purchased the car for $20k less than the buyout price in the lease contract. MB does realize the depreciation and is selling the car at market prices.
