Atlanta AMG Weekend Kudos
The heavy rain on Saturday didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm and it was great meeting a bunch of like-minded AMG fans. Even with the lousy Saturday weather, the dyno runs at Allspeed resulted in more than a few grins. Sunday was much more weather-forgiving and the drive to Silver Dollar Raceway was uneventful until our fearless point man (in the CLS55) hammered it on an open stretch.
Most followed suit and I enjoyed the opportunity to really stretch my beast's legs for the first time (apologies to Joe in the uber-dog Kleemann SL65 when I switched lanes and found my mirrors filled with his Imperial Red beauty)! Our hosts at Silver Dollar were gracious (sometimes it seemed we outnumbered them). I'm really looking forward to some of the event pics!
Very special thanks goes to our guest from AMG. Rob is a class act and his hospitality, humor, candor and (and especially) willingness to listen was greatly appreciated!
I couldn't have had a better time.
Serious thanks, guys!
You are most welcome! Schiznick really took the lead and was the force behind making all the connections happen. In fact, he spent the entire weekend with us despite fighting his own cold during the event. I have much respect for this man.
Friday evening, several who had met at the hotel went for Bison steaks at Ted's Montana Grill (me, a first-timer) and sampled some delicious martinis with our buffalo meat. Cars continued to arrive late into the evening and when I walked the parking lot early Saturday morning, I was surprised to find several AMGs with Florida license plates, including TWO SL65s. I also tripped over Beowulf's new E55 as I was drooling at the other cars.
Saturday, the weather was FOUL. Heavy thunderstorms and some hail reported in the northern areas of Atlanta. We were about 20 miles South. Understandably, this hampered the turnout drastically.
DESPITE THAT, we had 15 AMG cars for the photo shoot (which was accomplished just after the rain stopped about 11am). Several more cars joined the fun (non-AMG) just to check out what was happening. We scrambled out to the tarmac and snapped photos before we caravaned over to a restaurant where our guest treated us all to the latest AMG caps
We lost one or two folks after lunch that did not want to dyno their cars, but the rest headed over to AllSpeed for what turned out to be four hours of watching amazing machines strapped down to test the numbers. We took lots of pics and vids and got to know each other during the afternoon. "The word was out" as several locals stopped in to see what all these cars were doing
My stock CLK55 (with the original air filter) put down 290 hp and 313 torque to the wheels.Sunday, the rain left us and we awoke to PERFECT drag weather. Cloudless skies and nice chilly temps greeted us that morning. We had a good caravan down to the Silver Dollar Raceway as we shared walkie-talkies and kept it to a very reasonable pace....most of the time
Of course, the drags were an eye-opener for some that had never been. We just had a great time and nobody had any mechanical problems or issues...a testament to the robust AMG! I tied my best times that day (13.4X @106) and my wife was able to capture my "showoff" burnout on video as I passed the lights (couldn't see the line with all the smoke) and the line workers had to come tell me to back up for the re-stage. DOH!
The Kleemann G55 was a hoot to watch haulin butt down the strip. We even had a few additional AMG folks join us that day SLK55, C36.The best part of the whole weekend was just spending time and getting to know everyone. We had a great variety of ages and backgrounds represented and an excellent mix of cars as well.
I'll post some photos soon.
It was a pleasure workign with Chappy to pull this off. The next one should be even bigger.
My hat goes off to everyone that braved the weather on Saturday to join us as well as for Sunday at the drags.
I will pull some additional thoughts and pictures together and get them posted soon.
It was great meeting everyone and I can't wait to see all the pics!

My E55T put down 414 at the rear wheels and the CLS55 put down 424 at the rear wheels. I think I can also say that the CLS was by far the loudest of any of the 55 cars. It sounded incredible at speed!

Over the weekend, I think the only AMG that we were missing was an S55 or S65.
We has at least one C, CLK, SLK, SL, E, CLS, CL, SL, ML, G
We will do better next time I promise!
