I highly doubt we will hit 100 degree weather. We are about 1 mile from the beach, and the breeze is always blowing nicely in Encinitas. But just in case, there are few/some shady spots, so get there early if you want. As for other refreshments (munchies, sodas, etc...) you are all welcome to BYO.
However, security has made it very clear that NO ALCOHOL is allowed.

I was able to sell the event to the rent-a-cop there by assuring him that this was a classy MB event, not a bunch or rice-burners doing donuts in the parking lot, and drag racing down Vulcan Rd.
We will be watched closely, and if anything gets out of hand, we will all have to shift spots to the Encinitas City Hall parking lot, across the Encinitas Blvd.

As for dinner plans, I still have not heard from any of the Encinitas / Carlsbad resident experts on what close-by location would be best. I'm hoping someone can spot a place real soon, so we can get a head-count of how many people are intending to stick around for dinner, and get a space reservation in on time.

There will definitely be some recognition for the chassis model most represented. However, if all the UNIMOG's show up, us "low-riders" will be hard-pressed to put on a challenge !!!

Once we get closer to the event, I will repost the Attendance List by chassis type.
From past meet experience 25% of those who sign up DO NOT show up (wake up late / forgot / had to take the cat to the vet / didn't wash the car / dog ate my homework / etc....)
Believe me folks, you DO NOT want to miss this !

So meeting at 12:00-12:30. Dan please give enough time for as many people to show up. Maybe wait until 12:45 to take off. It shouldn't take more than hour to get from Irvine to Encinitas, unless there's a major chemical spill or nuclear reactor meltdown on the 5.
People, please be ready ! Use the 12:00-12:15 time frame to get gas and lunch. By 12:30 everybody should be checking in, and ready for a full-caravan departure by 12:45.

so make sure everyone knows exactly where to meet, & when.
I suggest meet at 12:00 noon and depart at 12:45 giving everyone enough time to get there, get gas, & get food !

Making plans for a group dinner -

1. Set a time (the earlier the better). If meeting at 2 pm, you may want to eat at 5 pm.

2. Set a budget, for your particular group. This is not a high budget group and this thing wasn't advertised as having a high ditch dinner at the end of it. There is a nice Italian restaurant in that row of shops on the other side of the tracks, but it may be too expensive for some. (I don't know the prices there, you may want to check it and the menu of other restaurants in the area.)

3. Find out how busy the restaurant is. Is it popular? Forget it. Call a restaurant that is dead at some point, like 5 pm or just when it first opens. Then you would be better off just arriving with your group at that time WITHOUT A RESERVATION and breaking up into smaller groups at SEPARATE TABLES or make reservations, but with different tables. The restaurant should be used to having all their tables fill one after another at dinner (it happens enough) and should be able to accommdate them all pretty much at once. One table will take longer with their salad and it all will balance out according to the table when things get served.

Why NO GROUP RESERVATIONS. A) Because of the mandatory tip that is added onto group checks (18%), and with the restaurant trying to serve one huge table at once, it is usually not very good service. B) Instant separate checks, or at least one check per table, makes it easier to figure things out. C) It doesn't matter who stays for dinner or not. D) It gives people at smaller tables a chance to talk and meet each other (at the June 11 dinner, those who sat at the same table knew who each other were after the event even if they didn't before or during). E) Most important, less people to share the bread with
