Is it better go by the MB Extended warranty the first year you own the (new) car or the last year of the factory warranty?

Normally,

There is no price difference/penality with Mercedes ELW in regards to if you purchase during the beginning of your factory warranty or at the end. The risk that you do run though is if Mercedes decides to adjust their prices for the ELW across the board as they did in 20014/20015. In that example, a 3-year ELW for an AMG went from approximately $3,000 to $6.000. It basically comes down to if you know that you are going to keep the car for that long within the first year of ownership. I personally waited till the end of the warranty on my 2016 E63 before I purchased the ELW.

The interesting question would be could you extend if you only added 1 year of ELW, i.e. it is expiring at 5 years and you want to add 1 or 2 more years. Hopefully someone who has tried to get it will chime in.

No, I'm pretty sure that you only get "one shot" to extend (ELW) your original 4yr/50k mile warranty.

GLK350
I just purchased a 3yr/75k warranty from Cassandra for my 2015 GLK350 which has 30,500 miles on it. I got a local quote for $4312.50. Her price was $2000. If I went with 3yr/100k it was $3000. I will not put that many miles on it within that time frame, so I opted for the 3/75 contract. My local dealer said there was a 15% penalty for getting the ELW within the final year of the vehicle's original warranty. Cassandra thought some states may do that, but hers does not. A fast and painless transaction. Thanks to this forum and Cassandra for saving me a lot of money.

2020 MB E450 Estate, 2019 Kia Niro Touring
I emailed Cassandra and got a response hours later with a price for my upcoming 2020 E450 Wagon of $2,200 for 7 years & 75k miles. VERY quick response.

Does anyone know if a Wheel & Tire warranty is available from anyone other than MB, or at a discount? Or does anyone offer the 2/3/4 year MB Premier Service at a discount?

To MBenz77 who got the Red Shield warranty: It's great to know warranties like this are available even when the car is out of warranty, and for more years & miles. In your opinion, would I be best to get the above MB warranty and then, assuming I still have and want the car, get the Red Shield warranty? Or would I be better of getting Red Shield in the first place? Actually, I can probably decide that later: the MB warranty, which I can get when I get the car, can be 100% refunded prior to the expiration of the 4/50 basic warranty on the car. So it might be best to get it, then decide in 4 years whether to keep it, or consider going to Red Shield, based on cost, coverage, etc. Unless Red Shield has a similar 100% money back if you cancel before using?

The MB warranties are usually the best. The aftermarket warranties typically cost more because there's more profit it in for whoever sells it. Plus they tend to have things like deductibles and maybe if it's expensive, they want to do an inspection and then sometimes there's a dollar limit on how much they pay out or they deny claims or go out of business. So if you ever have a choice, the manufacturer's warranty is always the best especially when you're buying it at a discount. After 7 years, I'd take it to an indy mechanic which would probably be anywhere from 1/3 to 3/4's the cost of the dealer. (For instance dealers like to quote $1000 for rotors and pads, I usually get them done at an independent mechanic for around $300 which includes rotors, pads, and bleeding.)

Many of us used Tafel Motors for the extension of warranty or CPO, for the record.

Contact me for insider Tire and Wheel policy advice offline, please. I'll PM you.

Tafel Motors is now MB of Louisville

FYI for those who haven’t been able to get ahold of our OG Jeff Jackson - Tafel Motors is now MB of Louisville and has moved. Number has also changed. I’ve purchased many warranties from Jeff. He knows his stuff and I’m positive he is giving everyone the lowest cost his store will allow him. He’s helped me out on issues and discrepancies my local dealership screwed me on. He really knows his stuff. I never felt pressured and he was efficient. I’ll never go to another person for a warranty. I trust Jeff and my whole family has gone to him for warranties. He is a good guy, not your average scummy finance manager.

2019 AMG C63S
Not ELW, but I was looking at MB prepaid maintenance/service plans. I contacted Jeff Jackson and he just offered MSRP prices for this (for my 2019 C63S). I did check if this is the best and they seem to be MSRP pricing, and he said he can't do anything better.

I emailed few other contacts I could find on this thread like Cassandra, etc. The emails bounced for majority of the contacts, it looks like they moved elsewhere since they were last mentioned in this thread.

I know AMGs have higher tier of pricing, but MSRP pricing being the best doesn't make any sense IMO. Could anyone who bought prepaid maintenance plan for any Mercedes vehicles recently share their experience wrt pricing? I'm going to contact individual MB finance managers directly to see if I can find better deals.

I've bought 3 prepaid maintenance packages from Jeff Jackson. His price was the best @ MSRP. There was a few others that offered MSRP $50 over MSRP. I checked with a couple dealers near me and they wanted anywhere from 50% to 100% more than MSRP for the same thing.

That's interesting. Any idea about why they have the markup over MSRP? Is $50 some processing fee or equivalent?

To my understanding these finance guys make a percentage of the cost over msrp. Also, I know some GMs control the minimum amount the finance dept can sell the warranties for.

Don't know for sure. Explanation I got from a few dealers is that they don't make any $$ on the service plans, so they add a small amount to cover their costs (Credit card fees, time to process plan etc).

The 3 times I purchased service plans from Jeff Jackson he didn't add any fees, just charged me MSRP.

My 2013 GL550 with 67K miles is coming off MB extended CPO warranty in November (7yrs). Can anybody recommend a reliable 3rd party extended warranty provider and a contact name?

Extended Warrany Discussion

I've spoken with Gene Harris re: a 3rd party warranty with Concord Auto Protection (highly rated on Consumer Reviews), found him to be pretty low key, a bit negotiable, ..

gharris@concordautoprotect.com
484.408.0855
888.399.2811 ext 813

Prices were quite reasonable, even compared to MB ELP

My quote was for a 2013 E350 Luxury, 25K miles, 3.5 years/ 70k add'l miles, $0 deductible: $2,250.00

Be careful. These 3rd party warranties can be questionable. Ask me how I know. I had 2 Warranty Gold plans when they went belly up. Participated in a class action lawsuit but still lost money. YMMV

Read the reviews on BBB.

https://www.bbb.org/us/pa/king-of-pr...ints#285471922

Seems like most companies, deny the claims. Plus it seems like it takes a while for the warranty to kick in. Plus they've been in business for 6 years which is typically how these warranty companies operate, collect the premiums then when it's time to pay out, go under and start up again under a new name. With the manufacturer's warranty they are in force from day 1 and they don't go out of business or deny claims as much as 3rd party companies. It's an arm of their car business so it doesn't have to make money although if they don't, they just raise prices but don't go out of business. Not sure about MB but there are stories out there of manufacturers that lose money on their warranty business. But they also control their dealers somewhat as their warranty payout isn't as good as regular work. Those 3rd party warranties may have to pay the full labor rate unless they can negotiate a cheaper rate in advance. It's somewhat fitting that these guys operate out of a casino. Take a gamble if you're up for it.

It depends..
For these diesels, the cost of a warranty is fairly prohibitive, imo, especially if it is over 100k/160km. In my case, I forewent the EW, and have come out ahead. If one has a low mileage example, odds are that you may be better off without.
I will throw this in... a couple of months ago, I was shopping for another diesel. A 20 yr dealer service rep discouraged me from getting another diesel because the peripheral systems on the 6 cyl models (DEF, heaters, electronics, exhaust) are at the age when they start to fail due to time. He said I would be spending considerable $$ in maintenance going forward. I bought an e400 instead... mpg is close enough, driving it is very enjoyable... That said, I really miss my Blutec.

I purchased 2013 ML30 Bluetec with 87,000 kms. In your opinion, should I skip the 3rd party extended warranty? Because I heard there are lot os terms and conditions, this is covered, this is not, cap to the labor, etc.
