G580 Deliveries

Just heard that a bunch of G580's are on the "Victoria Highway" ship - arriving in Baltimore 11/5. MB hasn't cleared the vehicle for deliveries yet, but I assume they will soon.

Picked up my G580 yesterday! As others mentioned, its still a G class through and through and coming from my 21 G550 was an easy transition. This one drives very smooth and the torque and acceleration difference is noticeable. Promotional credit was either a free wallbox or $1000 of charging credit. The updated infotainment and touchscreen is definitely a welcome upgrade. The interior looks better than the pics online to me and love this steering wheel. I miss my aftermarket wheels and tires from my G550 which wouldnt fit on the new car. But now I'm on the hunt for new ones - the stock ones seem small to me from what I was used to. I didn't end up getting the electric grill which I wasn't sure if I was receiving from the beginning. If it's an option to replace in the future I might. Overall, very happy with everything so far!

Congrats! Was that promotion from Mercedes or the dealership? I haven't heard of it before.

The promotion was from Mercedes, I didn't know that was coming and I already bought a wall charger. I still opted for the merc wallbox from the promotion, its being shipped from Mercedes in 5 business days. I wouldn't be able to go that long without charging but the one I bought is from Amazon and I'll be able to return it.

Very cool. If you opted for the $1k, it would reduce the price you're paying for the car or it's some kind of credit? I did check with my SA and he did confirm that it's an official mercedes program for all MY2025 EVs btw.

Looks nice

Looks nice. I am in same boat, I have a 22 g550. About to get 580 same config. Little unsure about electric due to 240 mileage and depreciation which everyone keeps talking about. Let’s see how it goes.

It all depends on your use-case. My Taycan is around 220 mile range and I've had no issues. For longer trips we take my wife's GLS (now Range Rover). The charging infrastructure has gotten better too, I had no issues going NJ to Boston and back on my EV. 99% of my use-case is local drives though and charging overnight at home.

The G580 has regenerative breaking that the G550 doesn't. I'm not sure what that means for rotor clearance, etc..

I think the driving dymaics with this electric are night and day better than the gas one. I've never owned an electric vehicle before, but compared to the G550, a much better driving experience IMO. (I didn't have a problem with the G550, we just like this one so much better). The power of the regenerative braking is controlled by the paddle shifters. The default is strong regeneration. Below that is normal Regen and then no regeneration. I find myself liking the no regeneration mode as that drives more like a gas car I'm used to and seems to coast really well when letting off the gas pedal. It drives softer and even more "like a Mercedes" than our G550 did which I like for my SUV but would't have the same preference for a sports car.

I hated the lane assist on the G550 but I haven't had an issue with it on this one, or maybe it stays permanently off unlike that routine I previously had to do turning that and the auto start/stop off.

As far as the range, I can see how the term "range anxiety" is a thing. As Alex mentioned, it all depends on usage. For my family we have a gas SUV with more backseat room for the kids to use for longer trips. I'm mainly using this car for my local commute - 20 miles a day.

As far as the wheels not fitting that's what the dealership told me but I don't know. I did have to cut the plastic liner on the G550 to keep from rubbing. I had an aggressive stance and setup on that so now when I look at the stock setup on this I cringe. Previous ones were nitto recon grapplers on custom wheels from Formula, I'll email them and Vossen to see if we can figure out some options. It's bad when my wife asks why the tires are so small. Also, they might be special tires; they are Falken tires that look like they are a little deflated but I double checked and the tire pressures are at the right recommendations. I don't know if an aftermarket setup will affect the tank turn which I haven't attempted yet but will ASAP.

Depreciation - anyone's guess. I think we all definitely care about this - to varying degrees of action.

Maybe I'm in the honeymoon phase but so far no regrets.

Very glad to hear your positive feedback on the car! Not apples to apples but I went from an ICE Panamera to a EV Taycan Turbo and had a very similar experience where the EV benefits (lower center of gravity, instant torque, etc..) were very clear. I've never test-driven ANY G-Wagon, let alone the electric one, so fingers crossed that I have the same positive feedback you do Still have to sell my Taycan too, going to list it on cars&bids later this week hopefully.

Picked mine up 2 weeks ago, I ordered / placed a deposit for my dealers allocation on a whim 6 months ago when finalizing details on a 2025 G63 (that is arriving next week). For the month leading up to delivery I talked myself out of it 100-500 times, fear of EV depreciation, low 240 "ish" mile range, and it being an EV (never had one). After the test drive I was sold and the last 2 weeks with it have been great moreso realizing the range is fine for my needs and charging at home is really nice. I am coming out of a 2018 e63s wagon and 2013 G63 (which happened to break down the day before I was picking up the G580...local dealer gave me decent $ for it and I drove away in the 580)

Question for you all, have you found a fitted mat for the cargo area? I have weather tech mats for the front and rear but they do not have a cargo mat yet for the 580, I requested one and hope it will be available soon but if anyone knows of an alternative please share

Here is a pic from when I picked it up:

Cargo matt, this is your best choice. Copy/paste the link for it to work:

Thanks!!, but there is a hump / raised area in forward part of the cargo area in the 580 that the other G's do not have, so I don't think that will fit? also want something that has edges to contain any spills like this:

Hehehe, I have a fancy **** shower mat there now and its kinda growing on me

That brings up a minor gripe I have regarding the cargo area, MB did not put a keyless go door handle on the cargo door, while having keyless go in the G is a great addition, new for all the 2025's I wish they included it on the cargo door as well.

To follow up on this, I was misinformed about the cargo area difference between the "25 G580 and "25 G63. My "25 G63 came in this past week and it has the same cargo area layout, with the same hump behind the rear seats.

I ordered the WeatherTech mat for both of them this past weekend and expect them to fit, will update when the mats arrive.

Yup, I just got one of the cheaper options from Amazon and despite the overall thickness not being great, the fit was perfect in my G580 (despite it being a 2019-2024 trunk liner).

I did a video of the cheaper one I got on Amazon and some other useful trunk accessories here if it's helpful for anyone (products linked in the video):

I didn’t even realize the deliveries had started on the EQ version of the G. I just saw one the other day in Red Bank, NJ and would’ve never know it was an EV other than I caught the EQ badge. It was indiscernible from the gas car other than the badge and the lack of exhaust pipes. This is a much better strategy the differentiated look of other EQ series cars.
