First issue with G580 [Charge High Voltage Battery Warning]

First issue with G580 [Charge High Voltage Battery Warning]

I have put 1500 miles on my G580 over the past few months, been a fun car. Had the following issue today, curious if anyone else has had this happen.

Ran out to store to pick up lunch when I returned to car I received the following message and was unable to engage any drive mode. As you can see in the dash display there was plenty of battery available, 91%, but the car saw otherwise. I made a call to MB roadside and they walked me through resetting the computer, if I recall correctly it was as follows: get out of car, lock car, unlock car, lock car, press and hold lock for 10 seconds, wait 2 minutes, then unlock and activate car, all "fixed" after that. Anyone else have that happen?

Might be a glitch, especially if it is gone after restarting.

Aside from you and I, I am not sure how many other owners are on this forum, I have yet to see another one out in the wild either

I had the error again today, was able to repeat the sequence of re-setting things and it went away.

Haven't needed to charge it since both errors have shown up, hoping after I charge it something may re-set too?? (doubtful)

For what it's worth, sales person said break in procedure is not to charge over 80% until 5k mi. I only charge to 70 so I didn't mind. If your usage allows, maybe try charging to 80% to see if that warning comes back.

Thanks for the info, first I have been told that, I made a point in asking the dealer what the break in procedure was and they said "nothing at all"

The truck left me stranded last Thursday and has been at the dealer for the last week.

As of now they have no idea what is wrong with it, I was told they are waiting on Mercedes for an answer....less than ideal.

Was just told it is done, local dealership worked with MB on the issue, the fix was to update the drive unit controllers.

Dealership is delivering it back to me in the next couple of hours, knocking on wood that it's fixed

I will update this thread if it continues to be an issue.

Bought 580 on Saturday. Car froze up with all kinds of warnings. Towed to dealership on Wednesday. Returned car on Friday. More warnings on Saturday morning. Towed back to shop Saturday morning. Had car for 8 days, 4 days in the shop and counting

Crazy thread, it’s not like Merc is new to its EQ stuff. Also the battery pack is the same as the EQS just reconfigured to fit between the ladder chassis.
There is however 4 independent motors that all have to be controlled individually. A physical gear reduction for each motors low range. A whole host of unique settings and modes for off-roading.
There’s definitely a lot going on compared to other EQ models! Hopefully it’s all software related since the G580 is actually designed to have capabilities beyond school runs and autobahn blasts.

Just curious -- can the G580 be "towed", or does it need to be flat-bedded like othe AWDs?

Hopefully, MB's software engineer starting lineup is assigned to the DrivePilot team, and it's the backups learning how to code with the G580 (lol).

following up on this as my 580 did fail shortly after I took it to the dealer for the first time after they did a software update

The second time they got MB involved and it took a week or so for new firmware but it has been flawless for the past month and my dealer went way above and beyond to make me happy, zero complaints.

If it does happen to you, my procedure to reset the car is in my first post (learned from MB roadside assistance) get out of car, lock car, unlock car, lock car, press and hold lock for 10 seconds, wait 2 minutes, then unlock and activate car. Then call your dealer and let them know MB has seen this before, Mercedes Benz of Tiverton RI is my dealer for reference and I am 99% sure I have the only 580 they have serviced to date (again GREAT folks)

Ive had no issues with my EQS in nearly 12 months and 20,000km of driving. I’m sure the G580 glitches will be sorted with software updates.

I have posted previously about this problem and similar problems with my wife's G580. Of first 30 days, vehicle was in the shop 15 days on 4 separate trips back to the dealership. We are now within the zone for consideration of the California Lemon Law return of the vehicle. Same original issues cropped up again today. High Voltage Warning and See Operators Manual displays. Waiting for a response from the dealership. So far 4 returns to the shop and 5 loaner cars, as one of the loaner cars died while the G580 was in the shop. I have a G550 since September 2024 and it has been flawless.

Values have dropped so much on these that if you can exercise the lemon law provision to get out of it, you're probably better off doing that. For me personally, I've actually had 0 issues.
