Specs of the new G-Class?

Does anyone have any insights to the specs of the new G-Class? I am mostly interested in the dimensions and seating capacity, i.e. overall length, wheelbase, width, cargo room etc.

Had my eye on an R-Class but am thinking it is too small for my needs...

There is no new G class. Next year will be the same as 2005.

There may be a larger SUV than the ML coming out, but it won't be the G class. MLX and GL have been rumored, but it will not be the G. The G is good for 2006, it might be extended to 2010. If it isn't extended, it will not be replaced with anything you have seen spy shots of. There are a lot of spy shots the past 2-3 years of a Mercedes SUV larger than the ML, it doesn't mean they will be given the G name.

Will the G be sold in the US in 2006? MBUSA currently has all of the 2006 models on the web site, but no 2006 G, still the 2005.

Yes, but the dealers probably don't know yet.

I doubt it especially if 2006 is the last year. If 2010 happens it might be possible. I drove a G270 and it was very nice. Good power and very quiet.

The 400cdi from the S-class would be great in the G! Did the factory indicate that 2006 will be the last year for the U.S. market? Also, do you know if it will be a regular-production, or limited-production car? Thanks for the inside info!

I was led to believe that there would be a new G for 2007.

New G?

I remember seeing spy shots about a year ago. I thought the R was coming out this year with the G to follow. Was bigger than the R and a lot more streamlined than the current G class.

Hopefully this will occur as the R isn't big enough for a family with young kids and the soccer mom phenom of hauling other people's kids around.

The 400cdi engine is already put into the G. I have no idea if any diesel will make it to the USA, but it is possible. Diesels are becoming more and more common over here. I was told any engine MB makes will fit, including the V12.

The G has been selling very well in the USA, if the civilian models continue to 2010 it will be sold here. The decision to continue has not been made past 2006, keep your fingers crossed. If it does stop, I've been assured none of the spy shots you have seen will be called the G. They would rather retire the name then stick some minivan looking unibody ML on steroids with the G name and heritage. The spy shots you have seen are a new model line.

It is already a limited-production car. They make 23 Gs a day, about 1/2 civilian.

My star diagnose system does show a GL class in there so I assume that is what will replace the current G. It is grouped with the G class also.
