2007.5 G-Class upgrades
As has been the case with the G-Class several times in the past, Mercedes-Benz is introducing some mid-year improvements. The original 2007 model featured new engines, 7G-Tronic transmission, bi-xenon headlamps, etc. Then, the 2007 US version of the G-Class was shown with a new dash center stack featuring DVD navigation.
Now, the final pieces of the puzzle have come together and starting with March production the G-Class will also features a revised instrument cluster, new tail lights, and possibly a reversing camera as an option.
Pictures below are from a G500 Cabriolet, but the visual changes are common for all models. First picture shows the new bi-xenon headlamps and cornering fog lights. Second picture shows the new rounded tail lights, which I heard use LEDs but I'm not sure. The last picture shows the revised dash and the new Cognac leather color for the G500.

So, wait. I just received phone call from my MB dealer telling me my 2007 G55 should be here at the end of Feb. and that it was made in Nov. 2006. Should I wait for one that is made in March? I am assuming center stack will be new but I would prefer all the latest like the tail lights and camera.

The G-Class that you are getting has a new center stack, but not the new gauges or rear tail lights. It's not clear to me if the reversing camera option is available since it's second-hand information whereas the other details were taken directly from the MB German website.

I have the reversing camera on my ML. It was part of the Package. Imnsho, it's one very tiny step above useless. Rear view mirrors show a whole lot more; and ParkTronic gives a better idea of closeness than that silly way too wide angle camera.

true but it definitely helps when backing out, esp. when you have little kids running around or anything behind you below the rear window

Don't want to put too much emhasis on the camera. Just want to make sure over $105K+ is spent on truck I want all the current, updated goodies coming to me I've been waiting a long time to grab the '07 G55 and now this debate comes up about how some are without full updates. Benzworld guy states that ALL U.S. G's will have ALL the changes. Don't know what to think anymore. Have to wait I guess.

That's one of the reasons that pre-2002 (pre-MBUSA) G's generally command a premium over post 2002's with similar mileage.

If past experience is any indicator, whenever more electronics have been added to the G - especially in the US versions, the amount of problems have escalated.

..............I have seen this statement made several times that it has become dogma. It is generally understood that one should stay away from the first model year following an overhaul of a vehicle. This thing about pre and post MBUSA 2002 G's falls into this category and is nothing unique. As is usual, by 2003 the electronic glitches were resolved. This of course will not prevent pre-MBUSA G500 owners that needlessly bought their G's at a premuim from a now defunct New Mexico company from wearing the anti-electronics dogma as a badge of honor. I am not sure that all the electronics in modern day vehicles are neccessary, but there is nothing about it that is different as it relates to pre and post MBUSA 2002 G500's.
...........I have a rear view camera in my 2005 G55. I don't use it most of the time, but it saved my behind when I towed a trailer.

German G Class vehicles will use a Becker made comand system. Usa will get MCS 2 which is what the current C and CLK use. C and CLK do not have rear view camera which not to say they can't add it on the G. Time will tell.

see my postings under "G55". I have bought a 2007 G55 from Autohaus in Dallas, TX. The car was built Feb 2, 2007. I have confirmation that 2 G500'sn he has delivered in the last 2 weeks do indeed have the new instrument cluster. I am very nervous as I ordered this car in December and have been anxiously been waiting arrival (apparently) and if it does not have the updated unstrument cluster i simply will not take delivery.
He will check and advise me as soon as the car hits the ground in Dallas and i will furtehr update on this forum.

I wonder why they don't bring it over. I should be good for at least 200-400 units a year. It would definitely be a Benz most people have never seen before.
