Looking to buy a G series....
Most G owners are of the opinion that 2000-01 or go with 2004 and later. New electronics for the 02 model year presented some gremlins which carried over to to the early 03 models. Bottom line is that not all of the 02/03 models electrically challenged, but if you're going to buy one in those years do your research on the service history, warranty claims etc. If your candidate shows any signs of having "brain" problems avoid it like the plague. If it's clean, chances are you have a good truck for the long run. Search the www.pointedthree.com forums for more info on quirks for G500 model years. Under $30k for a w463 is going to be 2000 or earlier model.
Xiao;
I'd say you payed a fair price for your G. Maybe even on the low end for one in mint condition.

Color has a lot to do as well. Mine was black. There were some interesting colors that just don't sell

Another option is for you to contact Russell J. Leabch the owner of Europa G-Wagen at 505-470-9412 for a Mercedes Benz G-class 1997 or newer Cabrio with powertop.
In October 2005, I bought my 1997 Mercedes Benz G320 Cabrio with powertop from him and I am very happy with my purchase.
