A close reading implies it is the short wheelbase or BA3 model that is reaching end of life.

It's been confirmed by Mercedes, only the SWB coupe is "end-of-life". The LWB will continue through 2015 at least, but the fate of the Cabriolet is not clear.

Whats the name of the color of the final edition SWB in those press release pictures?

Reminds me of a classic Porsche color

You can see all the specs and colors for 2012 G here: The Sunset of a Model: 2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV changes! Don't forget these specs are for U.S. market, so there is no SWB.

And this web site also suggests that it will be probably the last year for G, because MBUSA dropped G55 AMG for 2012 and anytime when AMG model is eliminated the rest of the class lives no more than 1 model year
