Hello
i am since G500 did not come with any.
its going to be just like on 2013+ G-wagons on doors. I will also add strips under the dash to have some glow towards the feet.

Looks great !!! I too like the custom rear door sill. Nice, elegant touch. Getting close....just in time for summer. That interior is killer. I'm still staring at the bowl of spaghetti wiring in the dash. That should be a challenge.

Thank you

yeah that dash install I'll have to approach with a calm mind ... it looks overwhelming, and I'm sure it's not gonna be a simple task.

When this car is finished, i propose you park it in your living room and never drive it. I will cry if so much as the wind hits it the wrong way...This is perfection. Great job

awesome thread, I'm really looking forward to the finished product! sorry to distract from the thread but I'm installing the facelifted stereo in my 03 g500 and am having trouble getting out the stock radio bracket (the black plastic piece in the photo below, don't know its exact name)

I've taken off what I think is most of the screws but there are some that seem as though they are meant to be taken out from behind. do you know if its possible to remove this bracket and install a new one without removing the dash and would it be possible for you to post photos of the mounting points on the stock bracket? Thanks in advance. (this is the new bracket I'm intending to install FYI)

MercHuston, basically you have to remove the whole assembly like this and remove couple of the heating ducts on the sides in order to have access to couple of screws that hold the radio cage to the metal frame.

I don't see any other way of removing it.

Sunroof looks amazing. I trust everything lined up OK after you made some slight tweaks for fitment. Another unique feature for your build.

This build just gets better with every step. Absolutely amazing. Elegant, tasteful and perfectly executed but best of all... subtely unique. Thanks for keeping us posted.

MercHouston: I wanted to let you know that the white radio crate (which I think is what you have) will not work on the G-wagon. I have the same white crate from W203 and it does not fit and is totally different.

Im talking to a dealer to see if they sell this crate for 2007-2012 G-wagon which came with mid facelift interior.

Worst case, I will have to modify the one I have so the newer style radio fits in to the opening.

Appreciate the head up, hopefully, you or I find a solution to this problem because im really set on updating the interior and even have the new trim pieces done up in carbon fiber. Best of luck and I can't wait to see the build in its finished glory!

I think what im going to do is modify W203 radio crate to fit the dash and I will have to take the bottom section (where the ashtray goes) from my original crate and graft it on to the W203 crate. Lots of measuring, trimming and then bonding it to the bottom of the crate.
Did not expect it to be this complicated but with time and patience I think its doable.
I already started the process and will post pics when im finished.
Dash also need to be trimmed a little bit on the top in order for the W203 crate to fit....

After about six hours of cutting and trimming and grinding and adjusting... I was able to perfectly aligned the ashtray holder to the bottom of the W203 radio crate. Now all of the W203 wood trim pieces fit perfectly and G500 ashtray also fits nicely.

By the way, this dash is going to be tossed.
This was a failed attempt in wrapping this dash. Long story, but basically all of the stitching was shrunken and it was a nightmare trying to stretch the stitching, laying the leather and making sure every point hits its mark. I had to heat the lather up and pull it so hard that couple of the stitches popped. I got it done but it looks bad (in my opinion), not to my standard, not to the door panels standard. I wasn't going to put it in after spending so much time and putting so much effort in to this restoration.

I purchased another dash and the upholstery guy is re-stitching the leather on a RUSH. Should be ready next week : )
