Hello
Im sorry, I did not do the folding option on my mirrors. I know that was an option, but I did not proceed with it.

Did Dolcar send you notes on how to connect?

Wow, first of all congratulations on the fantastic job! I bough a 2005 G-Wagon have already done some upgrades. I have also ordered the W209 AC unit and ordered the C-Class frames for the newer G-Wagon and the seat heating buttons form the MB dealer. I was wondering does it fit or do you also need to update the frame behind it?

I am also looking to put the leather on the vinyl interior parts. Dit you first remove the vinyl of thos parts such as the dashboard or just glued the leather over it? Also I read that you dit the leather cutting by yourself and had semone to stich it together. Was that an 'easy' job to do as it fits extremely wel such as the part around the center console. Do you have any tips for the leather process?

As far as dash upgrade, you will need to trim few ends to make it sit right. I made my crate from 2 different pieces so that my center vent did not have a place to attach to on the bottom, I trimmed the attachment brackets but its sitting snugly and is not going anywhere.

No you don't need to remove vinyl from the parts, you just need to scuff them with sand paper and then use upholstery glue and go through the process of gluing.
I created my own templates but I did not cut the leather. I had the upholstery guy cut it and stitch it.
I did all the gluing myself, but I would not recommend it, unless your willing to learn as you go. I did ALLOT of research before I did it and in-fact I ruined 1 dash so I had to get dash leather re-stitched in 2 sections (upper and lower) and re-glue everything.

It took me approximately 8-10 hours per door panel. Dash couple days, etc... NOT EASY.... just warning you ))))

I didn’t expect it to be real easy but sounds it to be doable ;-) how did you treat the inner corners where two parts meet don’t you get a hump there when glueing? About the diamond stiched in the footwell is it just stiched leather or does it have some kind of filling material to make the diamonds stand out more.

I have bought the seat heating buttons from the local MB dealership last friday but noticed this newer part has different connectors than the older version. Where did you get the right connectors for it and do you maybe have the wiring diagram for it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

One more question (for today ;-)) I noticed you have the newer steering wheel. I asked around an was told this is absolutely impossible. But ofcourse you have proven the opposite. Is it fully functional including buttons and airbag? Dit you have to make any mods to it?

As far as corners its, all about trimming the access leather and tucking it in a way so you don't get any folds or loose leather. Fiddly and you sometimes need to use heat gun to stretch the leather, etc...
Diamond stitching is leather over foam which creates diamonds.

For the center console, I purchased W205 one one from wrecking yard (just for the plugs) that had plugs included. Wires were cut, plugs remained in the switch panel. I then cut my plugs off and soldered wires to the new plugs. I did not have a wire diagram, just common sense and trial. I honestly don't remember the details how I matched the wires, but I remember it was just common sense I think... visually it made sense.

Steering wheel I got from DOL.CAR on Instagram. They are in Russia and they machined the shaft so it fits G500 and they did all the re-wiring and re-programing of the steering wheel module. All buttons work as much as they can with G500. They also provided me with a plastic spacer that you need to glue on to the back of the steering wheel so you don't have the 1" gap between the steering wheel and steering column.

Airbag is a separate from the steering wheel, its about matching the correct wiring. I have not gotten to that. My SRS light is on, ill get to it some day lol... for now I drive it as-is.

1999 G300TD
Thank you.. You inspired a lot of us. I have a G300TD in Congo Africa that I purchased for dirt cheap $3000. Here are some pictures. Needs updating and upgrading. Thanks for the reply on the leather. Will not get close to yours but will do my best. I live in California so I've already been buying parts on Ebay. This is a 1999 W463 Turbo Diesel with a 5 speed manual transmission. Will be there in June for 6 weeks to work on it. Labor is dirt cheap there so I should get a lot accomplished. Will be my ride when I visit. Originally from there.

I have been looking for some parts but these seem hard to find. I hope you can help me out.

While visiting the local MB dealership they could not tell me where to get the connectors for the hazard light panel and how to connect them.
The parts list from Mb all showed thd old dashboard panels and old connectors. Even when using a newer vin that has the upgraded dash.

Also I have been searching for an instrument cluster. I can buy a one from the local dealership (AMG or non AMG) but I read som horror stories of people buying the cluster and not getting it to work.

They could not pair the cluster and keep getting SRS Airbag clusters or don't get the right milage to show. I wonder how you did this?

There is a very limited amount of clusters on eBay. I dont know if there are other sources you can recommend?

I appreciate the help.

It is quite silent in here :-D

I am working on my conversion of the center console to the facelifted version. I currently have all the materials voor the 2007+ version.
I will post all details here when I have fitted all parts. I am just facing an issue with the 'hazard' switch panel. The connectors have been changed in the facelifted version.

There are 4 connector ports on the back of the unit. One connector (the one with the grey locking part on it) can directly be fitted to the new unit.

The canbus connector has changed to a 6 pin wide connector. I have been trying to source it from my MB dealership but the only seem to be able to get the OLD connectors.
There are even no drawings that show the new connectors. Really strange. So I have been searching eBay for units from salvage on which the connector is still available and at last I have found one.
So the canbus connector is also covered.

Now I am only facing a connector from the old unit containing a single blue wire. I haven't got a clue which wire this is and where it goes in the new unit.

Is anybody willing to post a picture of the connectors on a new unit or does anyone have an idea what this wire is or where it should go?

When I have sorted everything out I will post a full overview of the whole wiring conversion.

Hello Kobzar,

Sorry to see you're selling the G. It's been an adventure reading this thread.

If you're up for it, I was wondering if you could answer a few questions about my G550. I am gearing up to do a bunch of work on it and would like the advice of an expert:

-It looks like you did a lift. What kind of lift and how many inches did you add? Also, what kind of tires are those?

-What do you think the cost may be to redo the interior upholstery? I'm thinking about something brighter (rather than black) and leather on the doors and dash.

-Any areas of rust that you encountered? I've documented quite a few common areas but my guess is that there are more I'm missing.

-Is there any way to do a custom switch for some light cannons? I'd like to make a switch that replaces one of the blank plates on the dash. Also, is there any service that could custom make a switch that looks like OEM?

-What, if any, opinion do you have about undercoating services? I'm thinking about doing an oil undercoat (along with door/body cavities) as even with my extensive anti-rust measures, small spots are still popping up.

-How much did your paint job cost?

Thank you in advance.

Those are nice!
G500 plugs will not work on these seats.
With my G500, I removed seat modules from the CLS63 seats and used G500 modules. I had to cut plugs from CLS63 seat and solder on G500 plugs to appropriate wires so that seat functions with original G500 seat controller.

No massage function, no bolster function, etc.... just basic seat movement.
