Question Will the price go down?

Hi MBWorld community!

I am currently looking for a 2016 or 2017 G63. One of the sales agents told me that the prices should go down soon since all current owners will be upgrading to the new version. Could someone in the know weigh in on this with an analysis of future market value? It is my understanding the G class holds the value fairly well, but I dont want to end up with a huge value loss on such an expensive vehicle. Please advise.

Thank you in advance!

No one knows for sure. Limited supply of new model could drive demand for old model.

I have been doing some market research because my MY16 G lease is coming due in five months. I'm surprised at how firm prices for MY16 and 17 have held. I suppose that as current owners trade up for the new model that the market will fill with traded units. That may provide some downward pressure on pricing. As much as we like our G's I know that selling used units has not been as easy as some other MB models. Practically speaking, if you have the time to wait for the used market to adjust to the impact of the new model you may be better off. By how much?....who knows. I suppose there will be little, if any, discounting of MY19 units because of the pent up demand. That may provide a positive effect and firming of used unit pricing. Good luck with your search. Give us some feedback on what you are encountering with used prices.

Thank you. I have been looking at the prices and they seem to be dropping. The same vehicle I went to purchase is now about 10k less.

Then i guess you have your own answer I have never seen the prices of G's ever have a big drop. Sure they go down over time but in huge increments.

If you want one buy one. They money you save waiting you'll just be mad you didnt just buy one right away. money i can make back, time we never get back

Not to many owners who bought their 2015-2018 G are jumping for the new model so i don't think you will see an increase in used G. The vast majority of customers for the new G are not ones who already have a G but the ones who didn't like the way the older model felt.

it is supply and demand. the supply of folks wanting an affordable g wagon continues to spike, thus holding prices firm. anyone worrying about the price should probably buy a jeep. you will be crushed on repairs and not be able to afford the g wagon. seriously, get a jeep and hillbilly it up and salivate every time you see a g wagon.

Dude, per cargurus.com, you have a $50k 2009 G55 while a hillybilly (your word) 2009 Wrangler Unlimited is $30k - huge difference. Certainly any repairs and maintenance will be more on a G than a Jeep, but to act all high and mighty in your wannabe G63 is LAME. Hell, to act all high and mighty if you have a G650 Landulet is lame.

i actually have a 50k rubicon as well stupid. and a 911 twin turbo cab. stay in your lane and drive your 30k jeep sport, sport. or should i say hillbilly. and trust me, if you are worrying about the price of actually buying a g wagon, you can't afford the repairs. simply math. additionally, the 2009 has a much better engine than the g63 without the electrical gremlins. so why not give your g55 a facelift? btw, you are so stupid if you think you can buy a 2009 g55 amg with 40k miles with all service records in mint condition for 50k. cargurus? dumbass! its not high and mighty, its trying to help someone understand the purchase price is just the beginning and not let them get buried under expensive repairs, dude!

I love how you say you're not acting high and mighty after you brag up all of your toys and belittle my poor man's Jeep Sport and tell me how stupid I am - like you're doing us a favor trying to help all of us poor guys realize we likely can't afford a G. The funny thing is, the OP inquired about the market of a 16/17 G63 - a car that's over twice the value of your G55, yet you tell him if he has to worry about price, he should buy a Jeep. But I'm the dumbass.

Curious how you jump to this conclusion? My dealership has a long list of customers waiting for the new G, including me. Almost everyone on the list has owned, or currently owns a G.

What a bunch of BS. I’ve had several G55’s and two G63’s. I much prefer the 63 and had zero electrical gremlins.

Is posting a Jeep Rubicon and an old turbo cab your way of showing off?

you are a troll. I don't need to show off on a mb board. And not sure why everyone is dissing old cars. I could certainly afford new ones but why? Better off saving my money Moron.

I have a 2018 G63 I just traded for this year. I traded my 17 in and it held awesome value. I am one of the guys that would not sell it for the new model. I like the rough around the edges, and raw feel of the unit I have, along with the looks. All the power to those getting the new machines. That being said. They will sell a lot of the new units I think. But the old ones will hold their nostalgic value I believe.

One of the really nice things about the older model is the after market support that's available. I did a lot of off-road mods to my 2013 G63 after I bought it and it was really difficult finding lift kits, etc. There's some really cool stuff available now.

Here is my 2cents on what the prices will do from an enthusiast not an expert.

There will be a slight downward price correction overall. This has been proven time and time again even with high end cars like G's and Porsche's, etc.

Newer G63's will be hit the hardest as the Price difference from a "Cool New Model" will be closest. Most people with newer G's at that price point will want the new stuff to show off! (Not hating more power to you!)

This will cause a trickle down to the older models and is increased by more and more used G63's now being available for inside 100k. Basically people buying in the 60 - 70k ish range will be able to jump to a G63 instead of G55, G550, G500

The older 463 market will be hit the least as the bottom will still stay relatively firm for now. The volume or NEW cars isn't greatly out numbering the demand because production volumes are relatively low for G's anyway. Bottom line is People still want G's that can't afford a brand new one (Yours Truly). Maybe its just me (no data to back this up) but i see/feel an increase in the G modification culture. I'm seeing more lifted G's with light bars and cool wraps at meets and around dallas.

Just my perspective.
