Current wait times on g550 & g63
If they told you 6-9 months, that would mean that he doesn't have a PO # for you so your allocation will likely be March-April. Having specced the car does not mean that you have an allocation yet. Once the purchase order number is attached then you have an allocation with your name/build attached to it.
I just ordered my 3rd G wagon which has a PO of January so I'll see it in March to April.

I attached a photo of my previous order for a G63 that shows it.
The order when printed from dealer should have a "Update Order" section that will list Decade planned and Decade scheduled and Production date.

In Canada, you’ll pay MSRP (and actually significantly below any other price in the world), but the wait is 2-3 years.
In the US, you can get one in a few months or perhaps sooner, if you’re willing to pay $30-50K over MSRP.
Not sure how long the wait is if you don’t want to pay over list.
One challenge is that most dealers will tell you it’s just a few months to get your deposit, then they will keep pushing the delivery date out.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Not only that, but you can’t even drive a G63 off road without new wheels.
I really don’t understand the point of the G63, other than showing off.
As a bonus, save ~$30K and get the car faster, probably.

Oh where to begin with this.
Yes, the G 550 is probably a better off road vehicle, no one will take either truck to Moab.
If you do, you will still need to change the tires on the 550.
The G 63 is so much faster than the 550. Car and Driver was astonished that they got one to do a 3.9 sec 0-60.
The fact that something that big and heavy can move that fast is mind boggling. Let's face it, ALL AMG models are about showing off to one degree or another.
The G wagen is a look at me truck, no question. The GLE 63 is faster and handles better and is cheaper to boot. Yet, no one is paying over list for one.
The G 63 checks all the boxes, it unique, its blindingly fast, it sounds awesome, it's relatively rare.
For the people in the demographic that can afford this rig, saving $30k is chump change.
It IS worth the wait and worth the premium.

We can agree to disagree, however. There’s something about the more compact width of the G550 and using a vehicle as it was intended that just appeals to me more.
(I’m also fortunate enough to have a near-super car AMG, so that itch is being scratched)
You can wait a year or more or you can pay the adjustment and get one sooner.
Cars are a commodity. MSRP is meaningless. You get a big discount when they are hard to sell. Conversely, you have to pay all the money when the demand is through the roof.
Won't have the same opportunity with the 'G'
