Question for 2019 G-Wagen Owner's - Cabin "Whistling"

Quick question for 2019 G-Wagen owner's - does your cabin "whistle" when Climate Control is on ?

The 2019 G-Wagen has water-tight door seals - and two small exterior vents at the back D-Pillar.

The customer issue we have diagnosed is at highway speed - with Climate Control on normal mode - those two rear vents produce a low volume but consistent "whistling noise" inside the cabin.

Question is - for other G-Wagen owners - do you have this "cabin whistling too" ?

Inquiring minds need to know to input upstream to MB Germany - let me know.

Keep the beat !

People have definitely commented about it in a few threads but the forum is hard to search - here are a few and hopefully others will chime in here if they've had any issues (or have figured out how to successfully fix them):

And quite a few mentions on this thread:

We got our2019 G550 in November and that's the only negative we have about this version of the G. We've only noticed it at full fan speed of 7, so to combat it we turn fan speed down to 5 or 6 and the whistling goes away.

Got the reply from Germany today - and they issued a Advisory TSB.

Germany's short term recommendation is (3) parts: (1) advise customer to turn Climate Control fan to 4 or lower - (2) remove rear door panels and remove two "foam channel blocks" each panel - (3) Front door inner seals - trim approx 3mm "gap" - items #2 and #3 deigned to let cabin air "breath" into door panels .

Germany has under long term research/advise future solution... no timeframe.

Our 550 whistles from the front passenger air vent. It's maddening! ! Our dealer is still waiting for a fix. We picked it up in November. If you crack the passenger window just minutely it disappears..... Frustrating

Yes! Mine is the driver's side air vent. Our dealer says they are working on it, but it has been 3-4 months now and no solutions.

I haven’t noticed a whistle with my G550 though 99% of the time I leave climate control on auto and it almost never runs the fan on high.

inwas, however, wondering what purpose the exterior vents on the back d pillar serve. When the car is running, there is a definite flow of air from the vents that seems to be powered by some fan

I haven’t noticed a whistling sound from any the vents, but if I open a window just a tiny bit there’as serious whistle from the air blowing past the window. It makes me think the G is pretty close to airtight.

From what I was told - technically the cabin seals were designed to seal out water (no a submarine - think of fording a stream) - and as a result not enough "air bleeding" when at highway speed with Climate Control On - or as some have reported - with Climate Control Fan high - and also as separate deal if side window is just cracked a small bit with sunroof closed you get buffeting/whistle.

Thanks for the feedback - when Germany gets back to me on this lower priority "whistle" I will post back to the forum - keep the beat !

My wife's 2019 G550 whistles when the climate control is on. She says, "it's damn annoying"

mine whistles from passenger side randomly also my ears pop whenever I open the windows. Even if the car is not moving after I have been driving a while. The vents on the C pillar I think are supposed to be regulating cabin pressure, idk...

I can confirm this issue on my G 500 2019. The whistle starts as soon as I increase the fan speed to 5 and above.

I don’t have any whistling on my 2019 G550 (August production). This type of thing would drive me crazy, so I’m glad it’s not there. I’m sure MB will fix it soon.

G500
Does anyone have solved the problem?

I have this same whistle in my G500 on the highway speed. especially when there is a side wind presence.
Its irritating. My dealer told me that they cuted a little a gasket inside of the right-side front ventilator but it did not helped much.
I see that latetst post is from april 2019 so quite long ago.

My 2019 550 which was delivered in Oct 19 never had the noise and now it has developed the noise in the last 3 weeks, this only occurs when the vehicle is driven over 25 mph.

Initially we thought it was from the door surround however the guys at MB taped up the door and it is still making the noise.

This is a long shot, but check the gaps around the side windows — that is, the rubber trim around the windows. Tape the window edges if need be.

I noticed a different type of whistling, like a kettle boiling, after my door panel was removed to fix a damaged lock. The tech left a gap between the bottom of the window and the rubber/felt seal, and it now whistles. Mind you, this is on the inside of the car, and my whistling varies with the HVAC fan speed, for some reason. I think the bottom line is the window seals may be the culprit for you too - probably on the outside.

So the guys at Beverly Hills took 2.5 weeks and they finally fixed the noise.

It turned out to be the driver’s side mirror was not fitting correctly.

Unbelievable!!!

I can 100% report that the noise has gone!

oh man, really?

my driver side mirror continues to gently vibrate at speeds over 60mph and that’s after they replaced it once. Did your mirror frame slightly vibrate before and how’s it now? I continue to have this whistle noise issue

My driver’s side mirror vibrates gently at highway speeds too, but I don’t have the noise. I did have a whistle noise, my daughter called it a boiling kettle noise, when one of the rear door panels had been removed to fix a lock. The seal between the window and the door, on the inside of the car, had a gap. Air was getting through that gap and causing the noise when the HVAC was on. If your noise goes away with the fan off, this could be the cause.
