17 Yukon, 19 G550 (in production)
Soon to be new owner of G550

First post here.

I custom built a MY 19 G550 a few months ago, and I recently received an update from the dealer than mine has started production. Very excited. This will be my first MB vehicle.

With the reality setting in, I had a few more practical-type questions for those with experience (specifically with the new model).

1.) I plan on using this as my daily driver, and I average about 80 miles per day to and from work, mostly interstate driving. I realize I am not purchasing the optimal vehicle for this setting, but was wondering if anyone uses their Wagen as such, and if so, how do you find the day to day commute? As a side note, I also plan on taking this thing off road on weekends.

2.) I know the stated highway MPG is 17. Is that mostly accurate in real world experience. Does ECO mode extend that at all?

3.) I plan on driving this thing at least 10 years or so. Is this realistic given close to 20K miles per year?

I appreciate any input.

Congrats! If you are planning on keeping this or ANY other Mercedes 10 years....1,000,000% buy as long as factory warranty as you can. Mercedes repairs out of warranty can bankrupt you

I know the 19 G is lighter than 18 or older models, but I will be amazed if you ever get a consistent 17 mpg! If you drive 80 miles a day...you will be refilling a min. of 2x a week!! Eco mode will only marginally improve mpg!

The G will be bad on gas because it is bad on gas. Eco-mode will do close to nothing. You can get 17 if you drive very conservatively. If worried about the gas, it's a truck to avoid for sure. Very little is practical about it :-)

With that said, you will love the G550. You will be super impressed with the Benz product, particularly quality and materials, etc. Doubt you will mind the little extra $ for gas relative to the absolute joy of owning a unique vehicle.

Very much hope you off-road it too!

19 G550, 19 X3
70+ yields about 14-14.5 mpgs.
65mph yields about 14.5-15mpgs.
50mph yields about 16mpgs.

Thanks for the replies.

I definitely plan on springing for longest factory warranty offered. I figured the 17 mpg highway was a bit overestimated. More gas station stops it is!

Looking forward to sharing my (hopefully positive) experiences once my G550 arrives.

No more MB:(
You will be fine. Just realize it is not the most luxurious ride, but perhaps the funnest ride. Constant smile. Share pics when you pick it up. Congrats and good luck!

With those many miles of hwy driving , definitely put the windshield protection film on as soon as you get it

Please forgive my ignorance, but is this protective film a DIY kit or something applied at the dealership/auto shop?

Auto-shop would be the place to do it
