New LR Defender 110

Coming in at a great price point with more features, it should give the new G some healthy competition. Especially if offered in diesel.

I think it looks great from the side and back but that front will take some getting used to. Very Flex/Element like, and I'm a big Land Rover fan.

From $50-80k, it spans a pretty good range and will certainly be capable. Shouldn't really compete with the G unless it's somebody deciding between a new Defender or a used G550.

Don't know what you mean by great price point. You can buy the Range Sport for less. They've made it like all the other cars in their lineup which in my opinion is a failure. They should have gone the way that Merc did with the new G or Suzuki with the new Jimny.
I do own two Defenders so I am a bit partial though but I would never buy the new one. Would have been better to keep it rugged and a marketing tool. Don't expect to see many of the new one in military or UN service around the world... Putting 85 ECU:s in a Defender and boasting about it is just wrong. Who's gonna fix that when it breaks down in the middle of nowhere.

Owned at 2016 Range Rover LWB Autobiography and by far worst car i've owned to date quality wise and not to mention horrendous service department to accompany it.
I switched back to mercedes and boy am i satisfied.
My new G63 is amazing and no Land Rover or Defender will be able to compete with it if you ask me.
So so done with the LR brand ...

You'll be very happy with the new G63
Mercedes quality plus super cool curb appeal
Worth the investment unlike LR

Love it so far - my only issue is the cabin pressure / hissing noise. Hopefully MB has a recall/fix for that as it’s on all Gs per my understanding

My only issue with my '19 G63 thus far has been cracked windshield for which I installed Exoshield film afterwards and have been good since.
As for the hissing sound I haven't noticed it with my truck.
As for LR's vs G wagons may I mention the G holds it's value much better.
My 2 year old LR RR ATB value at trade wasn't so great. (but had to get out of it regardless)

How often do you roll down your windows? I almost never do and then feel the pressure and noise. Rolling down the windows or crack opening the sunroof helps it go away.

Cross my fingers, haven’t yet gotten the windshield cracked - have a little chip that I got the second day driving on the hwy 101. Taken multiple hwy trips and safe so far ..

To be honest, don’t really care about value as I tend to keep vehicles for a long time
and don’t lease or finance ...

My two favorite brands are LR and MB. I've gotten lucky with my first LR product it's been great.

I'm waiting to see what the next Range Rover is like then try to decide between that and a G550. The G will cost more but will hold its value better as well, although rumors are that LR will jack up the price of the next generation RR to try to compete with Bentley.

Just hoping the windshield and pressure issues are fixed by then.

A long time ago, the Defender and Gelandewagen may have been competition, but they are so different now. Just with base price, they are far apart. It is true that Gerry McGovern is hoping to get more of the Chelsea tractor crowd to help sustain JLR, similar to the modern G-wagen's upscale base, but he's done so much to 'evolve' the Defender that he's really alienated the legacy base, especially with his insistence on the new 'design language'. At least a modern G still looks like the beast it was decades ago.

Personally, I'm disappointed LR ditched the solid axles, but i understand why they may have felt the need to do that. I was bummed when the new G went with an IFS, but how many new G's do you really see on the trail?

When I consider the functional improvements of the new Land Rover, i.e.quieter cabin, decent acceleration, creature comforts, I think I might want one, but I just wish they didn't call it a Defender. Call it a Disco 6 or LR6 and I'd be ok with that. What Gerry M. and Co don't get, or choose to ignore, is what truly makes a Defender a Defender are it's 'quirks and features' as well as it's go-anywhere capability.

Just my .02

Would have considered a 2020 Defender if they had given it at least a real locking rear differential. This active brake- torque nonsense is not a step forward in capability over a full RR or Discovery.

It’s one true step forward in capability is compatibility with a wide variety of actual off road tires.

Wow tough crowd here. I think the defender looks great and can't wait to see it in person. I will definitely consider a CPO model in a few years.

I also have a 14 RR LWB 5.0 SC and i LOVE it. Its a S class on wheels. Its one my favorite trucks. The resale value is terrible compared to the G but it is what it is. You can't compare the G to it but if the G was not in the picture I would take the RR LWB over any other SUV/Truck out there hands down.

Don’t get me wrong, I adored my 16 and 17 RR ATBs, when they’re working..there’s nothing like it. Reliability sucks big time

I like it, and would totally consider a base 110 or 90 but not to replace the 463.

Love the availability of a base model w/ cloth seats and basic wheel. At the $50k price I think provides competition to the Wrangler more so than the G Wagen - I'd totally take one of these over a $50k wrangler unlimited.

absolutely love my l322 Range....about to hit 200k miles and only had to replace minor things: radiator, front air struts, fuel filter, and routine maintenance/repair items. Do have a slip going into 4th gear (which is due to a known bearing issue - $5 dollar part but $$ to tear open the trans) that I have been putting off b/c I can shift it manually. And no point in dropping a few grand into it when I'm looking at a replacment..either G63 or RR ATB (possibly LWB - not sure if its worth the price)

Never were truer words spoken
My blacked out RR ATB LWB was beautiful but when it's electrical system and other stuff went haywire it became downright upsetting and embarrassing
Reliability is the pits

The L322 is a fantastic truck. I am looking to pick up a cheap daily to keep mileage off some of my main cars and was looking at a 10-12 L322 or a W221 07-09 S class.

You can't go wrong with either the G63 or the RR LWB. BUT they are both different trucks. I enjoy both and love both but if I had to pick one and have only one it would be the RR LWB. The drive and comfort is amazing not to mention tons of power with the 5.0 SC. The G63 is great but I would not want to take it on a long road trip, I would pick the LWB all day. City driving and local driving G63 hands down.

G63 gets too much attention. That is why I do super dark tint. But some people like that type of thing.

Both are great and you can't go wrong with either.

good luck!

I share a lot of the same opinions on both. The new rounded style L405 RR just doesn't knock my socks off (the interior I do like). Seems I only get to liking it in certain color combos...most just look bland to me. The L322 just always had more road presence to me....Especially the L322 AB (2012). I favor the look of a more boxy and masculine SUV and and other than the L322 the G63 is really the only one that fits that.
