Yeah, I'm still leary of the drilling. I have to give them a call and see what their procedures are for the G. Also, what their warranty is regarding holes they drill, if I go that route. At a minimum, I'll still be getting the underbody treatment though.

MBUSA just gave me a 300 $ gift certificate for my troubles( and loyalty)- very disappointing in light of the fact that my previously mentioned indication of rust under my windscreen seal and passenger wiper arm have been proven substantial. I’m going to the body shop on Monday to take pictures - I’m going to blast them to the dealer EURO MOTORCARS of Germantown MD and the MBUSA. At least there will be an electronic trail for future cases. The corroded wiper arm is a big deal and involves R& R entire dash or face water intrusion into electronics.
absolutely shameful that this made it out of the dealer - A MERCEDES BENZ DEALER
MY MISTAKE - I trusted that they would do their due diligence and that MBUSA would make this right through their franchise.

They should have just told you to f**k yourself. A $300 gift certificate is insulting.

The only way to properly resolve this is a class action. There are plenty of people with the same problem.

That's very unfortunate and also not very encouraging for my case. Was yours CPO?

no CPO but I managed to get a copy of the dealers report of MX and it had been CPOd the year before I bought the car.
as I read the CPO coverage - corrosion is not covered. On most modern vehicles this is not even a remote possibility- metallurgy and paint chemistry. There is little chance this dealership didn’t know this car had rust issues- just disgraceful and embarrassing for the brand.

Still look like “normal wear and tear”?

The windscreen rust and wiper retention arm rust are in for body shop work requiring expensive and extensive body work $$$
-Windscreen has to be pulled out and the frame has to be remediated for rust
-Wiper assembly requires replacement- vehicle sent to my local MB dealer to remove DASH assembly in order to the wiper assembly $$$$

The production quality is not what it should be - poorly galvanized metal (MBUSA)

The fact that this was not disclosed by the dealer is another issue all together and one that was absolutely avoidable on the part of EURO MORTORCARS GERMANTOWN MD

Make this right

I have a question, was your vehicle under warranty when you had work done since it was over 5 years old? Reason why I'm asking is because I have a 2016 G63 and they are basically telling me to bad. Do you have a contact someone other than customer service I can speak with

it was not under any MB warranty - just the dealer complimentary interior/exterior repairs- worthless

MBUSA has offered a 300$ gift certificate- yea a joke.
that won’t even pay the tax on this repair

very nice person but I’m disappointed in the corporations unwillingness to accept at least some culpability- no production vehicle of this quality has corrosion issues in the last 20 years- this should be a no brainer - make us all customers for life - fix the QA/QC issues with an apology

In the rust thread that I started, I go through the steps to apply oil to the underside of the door sills (where this rust formed). There are six bolts (in 3 pairs of 2) that hold the three running board brackets in place. When you remove the bolts, you can spray oil directly into the cavity below the door sills. Buy a long aerosol flexible tube (you can a 3 foot length tube on amazon for a few bucks) and spray away. Use an oil that's formulated to inhibit corrosion. LPS and WD40 corrosion inhibitor are good choices. The straw aerosolizes the oil fairly well so coverage should be good. Don't be afraid to use a lot (I used roughly a 6.5 oz can of WD 40 on each side) to make sure all interior surfaces are coated. Insert the tube in each direction as far as it goes and give a good spray, pulling the tube out 1-2 inches every time. Repeat until you pull the straw out. Make sure to do this going towards the front and rear of the car.

I'd also look into a professional company that does body panel oil sprays (as opposed to just chassis sprays). Make sure they DO NOT drill holes to perform the oil spray.

Whenever you see paint blistering (bubbling), even without any visible rust, you can anticipate the problem being really bad.
Was this G driven in a region where salt is preemptively spread liberally on winter roads?

Finally brought the G in to get the rust spots fixed.

One thing to note is that it is very difficult to remove the windscreen without cracking it, so I'm getting a new windscreen. This isn't a bad thing because the windscreen was pitted and scratched (the drawback of having a flat and upright windscreen).

Oh and the bumper isn't rusty (it's fiberglass), it just needed to be repainted. Then again, the G is special so fiberglass may in fact rust on it

I see a new york state license plate in the background. Care to share who is doing the work and what the cost has been? Same with the OP to provide info on good shops who can tackle this type of work.

Thanks for the info! Not too far way since I work in Manhattan. I don't think I'll need a major resto due to rust yet, but it's always good to know where to go if I need. I have a small bubble on my windshield now that I'll take a closer look at in the spring when the windshield gets replaced. The other small spots on the body I'm not too worried about and will get them fixed as I get time.
