Lightbulb 2019 G63 quirks ...any more to share?

I haven’t owned old one or any MB, but find many interesting features and quirks, thought would be fun to share ..

Below were expected:

- loud locks
- requires slamming doors to shut
- unusual ground clearance
- brutal acceleration
- engine sound (amg feature)

‘Others I’ve found:
- hard to pull rear locks open
- pressing & holding unlock on key fob opens the windows/sunroof and turns the front seat cooling on (assuming standard on other MBs?)
- it’s soooo hard to install the rear license plate..why the hell they made it so difficult? Anyone else had same issue?

Your list of "quirks" is my mist of "why I bought the G" :-)

Fact: The G Locks are the greatest sound ever known to man.

The G locks sound bit manufactured.
  • I hate the key. Slippery and buttons hard to press.
  • The rear plate design is horrid.
  • Drives me nuts that the parking button does not auto bring up the camera views
  • Lack of storage under the seats and generally a lack of compartments to store things.
  • Rear trunk space
  • Plastic rain gutters make it hard to access the roof. Used to be able to grab the gutter to pull yourself up on the side rail, or step on top of tire. Now there is nothing to grab on to. Also, they look/feel cheap.
  • The panel under the center console feels hollow when you tap it.
  • Still haven't found a good mount solution for the iphone.
  • No USB in the cup holder are (but thank goodness for the cupholder compartment.)
  • Infotainment system basically a step behind. Lack of mbux will drive me crazy when its finally introduced.
  • Remote start kills engine when you unlock the car

In short this car is a feat of engineering and is amazing on every level. So these nits are really just nits and not at all major detractions.

  • Window glare of the speakers
  • wind noise on highway
  • LED lighting on nighttime drives is a bit bright
  • Having to turn LKA off every time you start the G
Surprised those weren't included :-)

Very quite on freeway around 70mph, but wind noise come up at 75 quite bit. Anyone’s driver side rear view mirror having vibration issue? Mine does a little bit.

Yes, the door mirrors do vibrate - I thought that was an issue with old GX470 only. I assume it’s due to non aerodynamic nature

It’s weird that only the driver side is vibrating. It’s not the whole mirror casing is vibrating(only the mirror inside of it) I need to double check with dealership when I get to the 1st service see if they could right it up bit.

One other quirk / cheap item is the sun visors - they do their job but don’t extend and of a very cheap material that does not match with anywhere inside the g. Also the grab handles are cheap, yet I know they have an optional leather ones now for 2020

Agreed. Very flimsy, weak, and feels out of place in terms of robustness.

I had the dealer replace internal frame that holds the mirror after waiting 2 months for parts to come in.
Unfortunately it is not any better after replacement and still vibrating at higher speeds (70+ mph).
Passenger side mirror is normal for now.
Keep us updated with your attempt to solve the vibration issue.

I'm experiencing a small whistle on the interior when the ac is running. It's getting to be annoying. I think its coming from the b-pillar rear passenger air vent. Has this come up yet?

My LKA has only jerked my one time; and it was jarring but on the margin this has not been an issue and I never disengage it.

Yep, whistle actually seems to be coming from rear right c-pillar for me and I frequently turn off LKA...

How bad is it at 80mph? Terrible? or drowns out with some music on?

I would not say terrible but the wind noise is noticeable. Hardly hear road, tire or trucks passing by noise. Just wind noise. It’s a hell of better than previous G63 I can guarantee that.

I do not have any wind noise in my 19 G550 but I do have the erratic AC system others have complained about, the LKA is aggressive and I have depressions in the hood where the outer skin is bonded to the inner frame. The depressions are only noticeable when looking at the hood from an angle but still rather annoying. Otherwise, I love the G550

I’ve noticed mirrors vibrating - both in my case. Gotta have that looked at but not very encouraged to hear that your issue isn’t resolved.

Anyone watched this Shmee (yes I know I know..) video? What a monster it is and I don’t seem to see his door mirror vibrating at autobahn max speeds either ...

Just took delivery of a 2019. Mine don’t vibrate.
I think some of the posts here are for the previous generation and are not applicable to the new generation.

2 things you mention I get nowhere with my dealer . . .
1) What is your AC issue - is it the whistle or lack of AC when standing in traffic? The latter I complained about, but dealer tells me nothing wrong;
2) Are you just referring to the curves in the body paneling that all G Wagons have, or do you have actual indentations that occur while driving? My hood skin has waves from the wind at highway speeds. I have had to have panel straightened twice when the waves became permanent in the center of my hood.

mine is a 2020 and they do vibrate. Build quality on the new ones are much worse than the old ones. Less than a thousand miles and I've had the mirror vibrating at high speeds, seat creaking when dynamic seats turn on, and rubber paneling (weather strip) around driver side window on the inside is already sagging causing a rattle. Never had any issues with the old one except for the hood squeak that was easily remedied with some electrical tape.

Not to mention leather quality also feels lower along with rough plastic on rain gutters etc.

and I've experienced failing electrical systems due to a malfunctioning camera and battery issues. Have no idea how these cars are passing the factory inspections

Can you take a photo of the depressions in the hood? That would be annoying.

With about 11,000 km my 2019 G550 has been flawless. No squeaks or rattles, no issues. My 2019 AMG GTC has a number of squeaks and rattles on the other hand!

This me crazy. At night, Apple CarPlay is way too bright bright with the LCD at its dimmest setting.

Yes, but I’m probably more photosensitive than most.
