Anyone removed spare tire?

Just wondering if there are any '19s or '20s out there with the spare tire removed from the rear.
I see alot of older gens with them removed but have yet to see any new ones that have done it.

LOL ya I realized some may say that. I'm on the fence, some I see and I'm liking it but then I do love the iconic
look of that spare. Kinda torn haha.

It's been done a few times. I've been exploring options to do it myself. There are basically 2 ways to do this the right. Made more complex by the fact that there is a body line ridge that goes right through the spare tire holder and the tire holder being off center on the door. The first option is an aftermarket cover piece that basically covers the hole in the door. Brabus and Topcar have a part for this: https://www.3wdistributing.com/produ...550-g63-w463a/

The other option requires some bodywork to cut/remove the spare plug and reinforce that part. The doors are all aluminum so requires either a more complex tig weld or some sort of custom fabricated fiberglass. I've seen 2 of these so far and they look great. Here is one on IG:

I've received a quote in the 4k range for this modification. The rear door shell is about $3500usd.

I'd go for the aftermarket cover myself and I may just do that when I get mine.

I kind of like the look of no cover with and off road tire package.

I haven't received it but sounds like about 2 weeks to get from Russia.

So what exactly did you order from TopCar? I was just looking at their web site and it appears item #15 is the cover plate but all options seem to be carbon fiber. If I did this I would like just the cover plate, painted to match, with no logos of any kind.

Yes, you purchase that piece primed and they will paint it for you or you just have it painted locally. The logo you just request to not have it. They said no problem to that.

Yes. 15.2 to be precise if you are painting it.

Thanks...it will be great to see yours when it arrives and your thoughts on fit & finish once your G arrives and you get it installed.

On a related note, does anyone know if there is a doughnut spare that will fit the G? I would feel better if I had something to throw on if needed and that would not take up a lot of room in the rear as opposed to the full size spare.

I'm having topcar paint mine in obsidian. And they are adding a silver star. I found a pic of this done a while ago on a IG story. looks great. I'm technically placing my order this week. PM me if anyone wants to coordinate.

This is a cheap option albeit I am not sure the newer ones have the same hole pattern. Getting some 24mm plugs maybe be cheaper way and when painted they might suffice.

That won't work. The new style has an oval / ugly plug that bolts stick out from... and it covers the body crease so there is no simple solution if you want a clean look.

The simplist solutoin on this one is from midcity in Chicago. They have a simple cover piece that replaces the OEM plug. They 3rd print it and have tried a few diffferent plug styles but haven't seen one that I like yet. the topcar version is the cleanest one i've seen other than modifying the door panel which fully eliminates the rear spare option. The topcar/midcity/brabus versinon all let you revert to a spare / OEM look. I've spent way too much time on this project.
