Windshield Protection

I’ve seen a few older threads about cracked windshields and how to start protecting them, so was curious if anyone has formed an opinion on a windshield PPF? Just shattered my first windshield on my 21 after 500 miles w a rock chip.

The two that come up the most are Exoshield and Clearplex.

Anyone have a strong opinion or experience with either now that the cars been out a few years?

I have Exoshield - cost me $500 and I paid an extra $250 for their $3000 windshield replacement warranty.

I got my first rock at 500 miles like you--created a chip in the exoshield. So far I've collected 2-3 more hits (including one last week) that thankfully have just put spots on the exoshield. Who knows if it would have cracked the windshield without protection but so far I'm happy. I know it's not invincible but better than nothing.

My dealer sells a plan for that. Its like 750 if I remember right. I do now know who it is through. But they buff something into the glass and then if you get a crack it replaces the window with factory glass. Not sure what the buffed in stuff does, but most likely it is mainly a windshield insurance that you are buying. No limit on how many windshields and no deductible. For sure getting it on the new whip. A repairable chip is not covered, but any crack is.

Thanks! But can you get a new windshield for $3k? I was quoted $4200 by the dealership. Just curious if it’s worth the extra 250, but I’m definitely getting some sort of film.

I’ll have to look into that! I bought mine from a dealership in Ohio and shipped here so I (THANKFULLY) got to skip the hour long circus telling the finance team no to every add on - where they probably offered this. I’ll see if local dealer offers for non-new vehicles.

$4200 is insane for a relatively "flat" piece of glass!

Not sure how it would work but hopefully it never comes to that. Figure they would either cut me or the insurance a check for that amount.

That includes labor and disposal. I’m told the new 19+ windshields are insanely expensive due to the new heating technology? I could see lines through the glass in my 16, I dont see any with the 21… maybe that’s why its so expensive

The disposal is probably 500 of it. Open a dumpster and throw broken windshield is dumpster lol. You may be right on the new heating technology. I could see the lines in my prior model as well. I haven't seen the new ones up close.

I have the Stek Dyno Flex installed on my G550. Great so far against some pebbles but the wipers skip when its raining. Trying to figure out a solution for the skipping wipers. Any suggestions? Thanks
