Ijdmtoy rear light fit issue

I just received my idmjoy rear led tail lights and the fit is poor at best. The instructions tell you to discard the original inner plastic housing which I think is a mistake as this causes a gap to form around the tail light and the body of the vehicle.

Has anyone else experienced this and how do they go about resolving?

A slip of paper easily fits between tail light and body.

It's a poor design for sure. You cannot push that rubber seal all the way in. I did some trial and error on how far I was able to push it in and retain a good seal. Just make sure to check all around to make sure you're getting a seal around the whole thing.

See my ijdm post. I have no confidence in the longevity of any of their products. They do look nice though.

Yeah it looks cheap for sure. Are there any similar ones that are higher quality? I’m happy to pay more

this is a shame to hear since they do look nice overall and modernize the rear lights. Jackwagon overlanding has a set for sale but have no idea if they are any better than the iJDMToy ones.

And the right brake light just stopped working. These are definitely getting returned now. I wonder if lights off of a 2019 w453a would be compatible with the w463

Those look about the same, and looks like you'll be reusing the factory rubber gasket, so may have the same issue.

The ijdm do look good, and so far my only complaints are from the front signals, but considering the warranty is 90 days and the condensation issue I had, I just don't have confidence in anything lasting.

I replaced everything with their products, but I kept all my stock parts thinking I may need to refurb them and reuse them at some point.

I don't disagree with that decision, but did you double check your connections? I know I messed up one of mine and was ready to return until I noticed I forgot to heat all of the wire shrink wraps.

I will double check but I electric taped them all really good. It was working this morning and stopped late this evening.

What is more concerning is actually is the gap and the inevitable water intrusion.

I'd just replace the bulbs with LED units and call it a day.

I ran those lights for two years. When I got them I had the same issues. So what I did was take the red cover off my OEM ones and took the black cover off the Ijdmtoy ones and swapped it.

Essentially the gasket and inside “guts” of the lights were OEM and the outside cover was the ijdmtoy black cover.

When you do this swap over the bulbs as the OEM bulbs are white with the black housing they look ugly lol

I just upgraded to the led style lights off the 2020 smoked edition lights. The install was terrible I had to draw some diagrams and color code everything as the instructions that came do not work and the seller couldn’t help. The the screws did not fit. I got some screws at Home Depot.

It took a few hours of trial and error but fantastic

now I just need to install my brabus rear and my rear end is complete 😃

On the Ijdmtoy lights. All of the pins fit together loose when I installed mine, I used pliers to tighten the female end and after that the male side then slides in very tight. No issues with them operating well. I also installed the reverse/rear fog lights at the same time.
I did have the same gripe about the gasket seal being weak and it took alot of positioning and messing with the screws to get a tolerable seal. Needs a better design or gasket.

I didn’t have any issues with the connectors but the seal issue is what’s concerning. The electronics are not enclosed and with the rust issues, it makes me uncomfortable to say the least. furthermore, the resisters (?) get extremely hot and there’s no way to really secure the wires away from them and I’m worried they will eventually melt from contact.

It’s unfortunate as I really love the esthetics of the lights and would be happy to pay double if they could get the seals correct.
