2013 G63 mirror tap for radar hardwire?

Hello,

Hope everyone is well. I found this good thread with instructions on radar hardwire (DIY 2020 G63 Radar/Dashcam Hardwire - MBWorld.org Forums) however, the gentleman ran a wire all the way down to fusebox. I prefer to tap into the power mirror box as I am now accomstomed to doing on all vehicles.

Does anyone know which wires in the mirror/sensor box to tap for power and ground in a 2013 G63? I typically use a kit like this:
Amazon.com: Radar Mount RJ11 Mirror Wire Radar Detector Hardwire Power Cord for Escort IX EX Max 360C (3005201IX) : Radar Mount: Electronics Amazon.com: Radar Mount RJ11 Mirror Wire Radar Detector Hardwire Power Cord for Escort IX EX Max 360C (3005201IX) : Radar Mount: Electronics

Thanks much.

OK peeps I took matters into my own hands and tried to narrow down a switched 12V in the windshield/overhead console wiring bundle (2013 G63 with heated windshield for what it's worth)

I found two 3-wire clusters behind the plastic trim on the windshield itself. Both have a 12V power and ground, but both seem to be constant 12V - radar detector powers on but never powers off even when car is turned off, locked and I walk away for 5 mins or so.

ugh.

Anyone know how to remove the overhead console trim - that houses the switchgear for sunroof, dome lights etc. ? Mine is the third picture below. I tried different corners with a trim tool but it seems to be tightly held on and I didn't want to force it and break tabs. I can see if there are any switched 12V lines in there.

I installed a Fitcam (https://fitcamx.com/products/for-mer...tcamx-dash-cam) which is a dash cam that plugs into the rain sensor to avoid having to run any additional wires. They provide an adapter that plugs into the existing rain sensor wiring and then splits off to provide power to the dash cam. Check out the video in the link to see what I'm talking about. They show a 463A but it worked exactly the same on my 2018. It's hard to tell from the picture but I think that's what you're trying to tap into in your second pic. It provides power to the dash cam when the vehicle is on and then for a few minutes after it's been turned off. Maybe you could purchase just the wire from them or at least get a sense of how they're doing it. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for the tip. It's interesting that your 2018 mirror looks like that video you say. My 2013 (supposedly the same generation as yours) is different! I noticed this even while installing skid plates and changing fuses - there are so many variations between same/similar model year G's!

I will call them and look into it. In the meantime, I have the radar detector plugged into the constant 12V line, but have a battery saving option turned on the detector unit itself where it powers down after a while.

Just to clarify, my mirror/rain sensor housing looks different from the 2019+ models but the wire adapter works in the same way. From the picture above it looks just like yours. What's interesting is that in your case it's providing constant power and in mine it only provides power while the vehicle is on. Glad to hear you have an interim solution working!
