MB suspending sales of 2022 AMG V8 models

For an entertaining read, see https://www.federalregister.gov/docu...tnote-1-p24174. While I can't speak for others on this forum, I can say it would take me until 2022 to read through this document without any hope of understanding most of it.
So this was well in the works before this “this current administration”, as he claimed. Sounds to me like a natural progression to more efficient vehicles, not party politics.
This also sounds like a Mercedes AG Problem. Haven’t read of any abrupt cancellations from Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, BMW, Audi.

Not too hard to imagine the G63 becomes a G73 hybrid. Not sure what they will call the non-AMG version as I don't think they will do a V6 G.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
If I was a betting man, the next G is a G53 (some sort of six cylinder hybrid). Same torque / power as 63....with an option for a G73, but then again I thought the GT73 would be out by now
Its a game of averages, and the AMG V8 lowers the fleet average.....and when you have a fleet of less cars being produced....the big polluters become a problem in the equation
Ill be keeping mine and my wifes G63 until the future is setteled....you can buy up to 10 years warranty, ill figure ot out when warranty is up
Production will not be in play for about 8 months of 2022
So 2022 production is not completely cancelled?
My dealer just told me that they closed out their wait list for the G63. Not taking any new orders and anyone who had a 22 order either got moved to an extra late 21 slot or canceled.
They are also hearing the same rumors of a hybrid replacement. Not sure if that will be permanent change or what but it sounds like it might be.
No way MBUSA kills the golden goose so hopefully they bring the V8 back for the G like they kept it for the S.

They are now putting all of their stock into the new electrics and their flagship car: the new S-class hence why it is still getting V8's and has not had its production halted.
My theory is they get to save on penalties by halting all the other AMG's and V8 models for one year; during that time they prioritize their electric cars and the new S-class to get their markets off the ground and all the meanwhile us suckers will be hungry as ever when the G production resumes normality. Im praying this is the case and the G63 returns as that is what I put a deposit on and that is all I want. I suspect a lot of other G customers want the same thing so one or 2 more years of normal gas productions then switch to hybrid/electric G would be perfect but we'll see I guess.
