I don't think we have to worry that MB will make the G73 or whatever it will be called less powerful or desirable than the current G63! If anything, it will likely be more fuel efficient, powerful and agile and will be desired even more than the current model. And the moment it is announced everyone will be lining up to get the latest and greatest earth friendly G-Wagen. After all, that is the essence of advancement and progress! I would bet the changes required to the assembly line in Graz will take a few months and not something they can do during the traditional workers summer holiday hence the need to shutdown the entire production line for a few months.

I'm ok with change and I'm sure they'll do some great stuff with it but I really want the current G63 because I think cars like this.... the new M5.... E63S.... RS6 Avant... are going to be the swan song for the good old fashioned fuel guzzling V8. The current crop of V8 sedans/SUVs/Wagons are honestly awesome.

My hope is that the next G is so desireable that current prices on low mileage used G63s come back to earth.

It will not in fact be back. They are actively cancelling orders with deposits under them so that is done and gone. Will obviously have a successor but (1) the Tesla screen in it will look like crap and (2) they will FOR SURE jack the MSRP up for all MY 2022's.

Time will tell

In world news today, Toyota has to cut down 2022 production by 40%, its stocks dropped little, news mentioned MB and VW as well. I think that this s a global problem.
Few years ago, MB wanted to kill the G, the GLS was supposed to be the replacement but the huge demand from USA, the Middle East, China, and Russia kept it alive and then, redesigned.
I think that no one really knows, at dealers level, at MBUSA, not sure even at MB leadership, when the G will come back. I hope it will.

The GLS drives like a large station wagon, I’ve driven a couple of them when I take my G in for service.

Guys, quick question.

I found a brand new G63 with all the options I want except for the tires + rims... it has the 21" rims which I don't like. I need/want the 22" rims.

Would it cost me a fortune to switch it out after I buy the car? Would it be worthwhile at all?

easiest thing is switching out wheels.

Lol I think my post made me look like an idiot.

I was really wondering if it would be worth it! Any ideas on costs assuming I go with the Mercedes 22"?

The reason I ask is because they're asking the same price as a 2020 with 22" rims... just wondering if it's worth the hassle.

You can find new take off wheels on EBay.
I would probably make the 21 inch wheels my winter set. I have 22 inch wheels and have to switch to winter tires in the winter.

Not sure what your question is. Wheels are the easiest part to change. Only you can answer the question if its worth the hassle or not.

really??? there is a reason why 63 outsells the 550… its because of what is powering it. that was why i got the 63. its not about status symbols or looks…

Then a hybrid will blow that V8 out of the water and should sell like hotcakes ...

If Ferrari can make a V6 hybrid go 0-60 in less than 2.9 then I wouldn't be concerned about performance in a V6 hybrid G if that's what they end up with.

G63s and a few others
It outsells it because it’s the best (most expensive) G-Class. I assume most buyers in this range think if they’re spending $140k, why not $160k? Price difference between the two is much narrower than S560 vs S63, for instance.

The new G67, or whatever it will be called, will undoubtedly be quicker and more agile than the G63. That’s all most people need to hear. Any G-Class will be a big hit, everyone will eventually get used to the new model.

Hope they keep the same body style

The new electric sedans are not very attractive.

2026 G63
To answer the above question, it would probably be around $10k or so to buy a new OEM 22" set with tires. Also need to buy center caps and a wrench. I previously toyed with getting Edition 1 rims from alloywheelsdirect but decided to stick with what I have.

My guess is you can sell the 21's as take-offs easily for $5k or more.

For the same price I'd rather have a new G63 with 21's and swap the tires/rims out then get a used 2020 that has 22's already.

In most parts of the country and for most buyers of the 63, they're choosing it for the status and the fact that it's the pricier "special" or "AMG" version. As fanatical members on this forum, we are not representative of the majority of G customers in the US unfortunately.
I also agree with what others have said, that most people will buy whatever the next G they launch, part of the status people seek is having the newest, greatest, most expensive, etc. It's silly but that's the reality.

to me, the rest of the country cant really tell the difference between a 550 and G63… they look the same and imho, for the average person, they both represent the same status symbol.
and price difference isnt that much either. my draw was the power and engine and speed. i think also why it outsells the 550 is residual values. No sure its as simple as the AMG badge and status is why it sells…

and if they are making an electric version in 2024, will the gas version even come out for ‘23 or complete hiatus? or do we think gas version will be produced inline with electric with an eventual exit out of gas by the end of the decade? or else this would seem as a very hard/harsh transition and it could spook buyers!

I've always seen the GLS as an SUV trying hard to be a minivan -- there's just something about its lateral profile that screams gated community "soccer-mom!".

Agreed - except for those high rent districts where Gs are so common that dozens are seen at any time at the shopping mall, the average person hasn't a clue what it is. Most refer to it as a Mercedes jeep. People have asked me what mine is. Owners that dump $30K on a set of forged alloys, monster tires and lifted suspensions trying to stand out need to relocate to Palm Beach so somebody else will notice.
Migration to hybrid and EV is not a trivial venture for manufacturers. Just retraining service techs at 400 U.S. dealerships is an enormous investment, and doesn't happen overnight. IMO, the G's metamorphosis will be more gradual than what some others forecast.

Not to mentions they age horribly. Ever see a good looking GLS that has a few years on it?

One would think and hope so. However hearing Mercedes call their EV movement an "offensive" is an awakening. My guess is "all hands on deck", hell be damned. Will it work out or not? We'll see later.

Now that you ask, no. But I see frequently 10 year old Lexus GXs that look showroom new (even better than later models). Too bad Lexus has scaled back its palette of exterior colors.

When Best Western installs charging stations at every parking lot slot, I'll take the EV oath.

I thought that I would retire from fancy cars so got myself a GX. Study, reliable, big, ventilated/ heated seats, wood trim, but everything seems fake. Synthetic leather, old tech, outdated sound system but everything works well. No warning signs, no recalls. After 1 week of driving it, placed my name on 21 and 22 G63. I think that it all depends on how you want to travel. Premium economy, business, or first class.

Mine was a 2008 -- basically a 4Runner in a tuxedo. Had it 11 years/95K miles - no problems or recalls. Sold it for 1/3 of what I paid. New models aren't the same, so I bought a G.
