Squeaky Brakes on 2020 G63

Hi i took the car into the dealership for slightly squeaky brakes and they told me I need to change the front and rear rotors and pad and gave me this quote. They said since its brakes it' not covered by warranty. The car doesn't even have 7000 miles on it. Any suggestions to avoid this 9k cost and get rid of the squeak. They said it's safe to drive but the noise is annoying and I don't want to pay 9k for car that's basically new.

Did they say the brakes are worn out or that they are defective?

If they are all worn out, which I doubt it, than you would have to replace them. If they are defective, than its on them to replace it for free.

Mercedes brakes are horrible in general when it comes to its lifespan. However, for all 4 brakes to worn out in 7000 miles seems a stretch. I would go to a different dealership for a second opinion.

That's BS. Brakes on our trucks seems to be normally squeaky. Don't let the dealer trick you into shelling out the money to change them. Chances are the new sets will squeal as well. Mine are squeaky and I have about 2K miles on the truck. Started squealing at around 500 miles. When it gets warmer, I'm planning to change out the pads to low dust ones. Hopefully the squeaks will stop with the new compounds.

I saw a post about G 63 squeaky brakes being fixed with "new versions". I don't know if the post was referring to new version pads or rotors or both??

I took delivery of my G63 just about 2 months ago and so I would imagine that if there were "new" versions of the pads that were being used back in August, mine should also have come with them since it would have been built around Oct/Nov. But who knows. Might also be that mine just needs some more lubrication around the brackets or pad backings.

Unless you drive around using the brake pedal for a foot rest, and the pads and rotors are shot, 7000 miles shouldn't cause brake squealing. This is a design and/or component defect, and MB should provide a remedy at no cost to you. If the dealership's GM, disagrees, show up on Saturday morning when the dealership opens, and drive loops around the lot squealing your brakes. $9K for a brake job is nuts. The Lexus I traded in for my G had 95K miles on it, had 1/3 of the OE pads left and never squealed.
Check www.nhtsa.gov / Recalls / Manufacturer Communications - yours is not a unique problem.

Exact same thing happened to me. First vehicle I’ve ever had where I’ve been told I need to replace rotors at 9k miles. I did get the new style pads replaced about last year (which only stopped the squeaking for a few weeks) and now my brakes grind while slowing at high speed.

Warranties normally cover defects in materials and workmanship, and squealing brakes at 7K miles clearly qualify.

its covered under warranty if you under 12k miles, because they had issue with 2020 breaks, if fu$&@3s wont change it just change the pads it will fix the problems no need to change rotors, thats what i did on mine

People here really don't understand high performance braking system. Every time mine start to squeak just go to 100mph and brake hard, few times and it is good to go. No more squeaking. Just don't take your car to stupid dealerships where you get stupid advices.

Or spend the $9K on louder aftermarket exhaust and audio system upgrades to drown out the brake squeal (lol.)

I am not sure of the details but I heard that there is some secret 2 year warranty on brakes for the G. Not 100% sure if it's true but a friend of mine had his brakes replaced for free (for wear). The MB shop told him it's covered by a non-published 2 year warranty for wear on brakes. Again, please don't take this as fact but it's worth asking your dealer to check into this. From my experience with other AMG's and Porsche's, high performance brakes can be noisy from time to time but ya the fix is usually with different pad material. OJ-G63's recommendation above should also work (but will need to be done once in a while). Hope this helps...

Just show the dealer this and it'll be free.

Believe it's only free for first year/10K miles, then it's not covered (even under the bulletin).

A gaggle of MB's
With your VIN# and Quote in hand - call MB US Customer Care Mon-Fri normal office hours - and ask the Agent to open a "Case" to assist with resolving this with your Dealer. Good to add "I feel Unsafe" because the Noise holds-you-back from normal/traffic hard braking.

Your job to explain the situation from your side - and have Agent start the Case for MB-to-Dealer resolution.

MB Customer Care (800) 367-6372

That "Case" starts MB US back channel directly back to Dealership Service/Management in about 48hrs - and makes Dealer Service/Management responsible to report customer resolution on the specific Case back to MB.

Great information! I've copied this and put it in my vehicle's records binder as page #1.

You can also file a complaint at www.nhtsa.gov. A single complaint may not draw any action but if enough owners pile on, MB will have to address it. Also, if you are unfortunate enough to have an accident related to this issue, an official complaint on file with the NHTSA is great evidence in your favor.

The noise may go away as the weather warms up. I noticed that with mine

Has the noise gone away for you since the weather got warmer? Mine completely went away once the temps got above 60F.

Mercedes G63
Lightbulb

Well it could be some moisture causing the squeak. If you have recently washed the truck or parked in a humid or damp place, you may carry on using them. But if the brakes are in good condition it could also have something to do with the brake oil. Check if everything is okay with brake lubrication. Even I got to face this problem with my 2020 AMG G63 when I bought it last year. Although it had around 2K miles on it the previous owner had recently got them replaced from the dealership due to odd deterioration (It was free). But I decided to take it to the nearest Quick Fit's Mercedes Service Dubai Workshop. They inspected the brakes and said the brake lines were damaged. I gave them a go-ahead and they not only repaired the brake lines but also refilled the brake fluid with a 50% discount. Their service was really amazing and the brakes are working perfectly fine up until now and hopefully will continue to be so!
