New G-Class Recall (23P5491809)
The 4x4 model is not affected.
Issue:
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2019-2022 G-Class (463 platform) vehicles, the front axle wiring harness might contact an auxiliary oil cooler and chafe. This could potentially damage the wiring harness over time. As a result, impairment of ABS and ESP functionality cannot be ruled out, which could potentially increase the risk of a crash. If the failure occurs, the driver would be made aware through an indicator lamp or warning message in the instrument cluster.
What We’re Doing:
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership will inspect the front axle wiring harness on the affected vehicles and replace it, if necessary. After inspection if the wiring harness is not replaced a protective sleeve will be installed.
Chronology:
In February 2022, Mercedes-Benz AG began a review of isolated field reports by owners of G-Class vehicles, who stated they had observed an ABS and ESP indicator lamp in the instrument cluster. No related crashes, third-party damages, or personal injuries were reported. MBAG requested parts from the affected vehicles for further analysis.
From March through May 2022, based on its investigation and analysis of the parts collected from the field, MBAG determined that, in the analyzed cases, the front axle wiring harness had come into contact and chafed on an auxiliary oil cooler causing damage to the wiring harness.
In April 2022, to guard against such potential chafing, MBAG made a production adjustment, installing a protective sleeve on the potentially affected section of the wiring harness of all G-Class vehicles.
In parallel MBAG carried out systematic analysis of potentially affected signal wires for each possible wiring harness configuration. As part of the analyses, all functions of corresponding signal wires of the various wiring harness variants were checked and examined with regard to safety-relevant effects. In the course of this analysis MBAG determined that safety relevant consequences are limited to the potential impairment of the ABS and ESP brake system functionality. These investigations were completed by the end of 2022.
On February 10, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk could not be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
MBAG is currently aware of 12 warranty claims potentially related to this case between January 01, 2020 and July 6, 2021 and no other field reports regarding this defect in the US. MBAG is not aware of any reported crashes or personal injury in connection with this issue.

Oh and to think I got rid of our range rovers for more reliable cars, I am starting to think a joke is being played on us because we have taken our cars more to the dealership than we did with the RRs. We have had a roof leak, engine light thermometer replacement, squealing randomly when driving, and falling sensors. We also noticed that along the door sills, the G decals are falling off and appear glued on.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Currently in South Fl, all the Mercedes-Benz dealerships are owned & operated by AutoNation. I’ve done that , even after the recent announcement! They had my car for over a week & nothing got done! On top of that, they are telling me that the fix it’s out yet! There is nothing that can be done!! Listen they aren’t the most pleasant people to deal with! I don’t have it in me to pick them apart because it will not change anything! I’d rather not send my card to them, so I don’t get it back with more issues!

FWIW, in 3.5 years and ~50,000km I’ve had no such issues at all with my 2019.

Have not had this issue and have not heard that it is an issue. There is no recall in Canada currently.

If it doesn’t persist after you shut down and restart, I wouldn’t worry about it.
