Even more so, has anyone had a G that arrived anywhere in the states in the month of March that has been released to them?

 

My 21 G 63 was held for over 5 weeks waiting on EPA certification. I took delivery December 1st.

 

I get that but EPA certification is done at this point. The annoyance here is not knowing at all the reason they are delayed with no clue as to when they will be released.

 

yeah I know, just saying a lot of people waited on EPA certification. I’m also wondering if this is going to affect mine. I hope they let everyone know what’s going on soon!

 

Mine arrived in Brunswick on the 8th, maybe same ship? Still holding.

 

I went to the dealer today and I talked to the sales manager he said they going to start release them mid of April, btw my car arrived to vpc on March 3rd

 

New vehicles that come directly from foreign manufacturers to the U.S. have EPA conformance labels applied at the factory. The G's is located in the engine compartment on the hood directly above the cabin filter on the passenger side. No other certification is normally required on a vehicle that has such a label affixed to it. Do you have any details about this supplemental EPA certification? (California might be different -- everything there causes cancer, so there could be additional testing to ensure carcinogens are present in sufficient quantities - lol).

 

Hi, all I know, they were holding all the first 2021 G 550 and G 63’s into the US for EPA certification. Mine was an October build and was held in Baltimore for over 5 weeks.

 

Isn’t the EPA certification an annual thing? Seems like usually it’s much quicker if no major changes year to year.

The trick is to get a late October or early November build then it just shoots on through.

 

yes, there were no changes and they still held them.

 

There is/was apparently some new regulation that scheduled to take effect with MY2021 vehicles called the "SAFE Vehicles Rule", created collaboratively by the NHTSA and the EPA. Briefly, there were fuel economy and emission standards set by the Obama administration, rolled back by the Trump administration, and are now under review by executive order signed by Biden. So you are saying all 2021 vehicles that have come into the country this month are stuck at their ports? Because it’s not like the G series would be the only affected if this was the problem.

 

Dealer told me today it won't be this month. And that all Mercedes is telling the VPC is to not release them.

My 21 G63 is due to arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia at 5:30am on the 26th. According to MB Canada there are no recalls or campaigns outstanding. Hopefully the truck will be released for rail transport to Toronto early next week. I will update this as additional information becomes available. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it won’t be held at port.

 

During the summer, 2018, or 19, Ferrari suspended NA deliveries for a short while so that sales would be registered in the subsequent quarter. Perhaps that’s what is happening here.

 

Got a text from my sales guy saying

"There is a system update delay on the ones that have arrived prior to your and stuck in campaign but should be released soon so hope yours won't be much longer"

So we'll see.

 

Mine landed at VPC - Halifax this afternoon. Now we wait to see if it’s going to be held.

 

Received the recall letter last week and now waiting for that OTA update on my 2019 G63. My 2021 arrived to Baltimore on 3/10 on Lavender Ace. Will post once the OTA update has been released and hopefully our Cars will be released shortly thereafter.

 

Received a message from my sales rep today that the dealer heard from Mercedes. Apparently it’s an issue with a door latch, not the recalls mentioned above. Mercedes anticipates a fix in mid-April and they will then work on applying it to the vehicles based on how long they have been at the VPC. Dealer expects them to start shipping out by end of April and arrival in the first two weeks of May. Not what any of us wants to hear, but I’m hoping they’re setting expectations low and that it may be sooner. Wondering if others are starting to get this information?

 

Didn't get this exact information but my SA told me earlier this month he heard it was software and some part and that he expected it to be about 4-6 weeks until released so seems to align with what you were told. I was just about to submit the wire transfer for the car when I got the email. Remembering the 2019 delays, I knew this could be weeks or months.

 

Information got released in the past 48 hours. The door child lock was inversed, parts are on the way from Germany and cars will be delivered to dealerships mid April. MY2019 and MY2020 will get a recall about that.

 

The child safety lock is the topic of a safety recall 20V247. The fix is a lick-em-stick-em label that gets pasted over the stamped marking on the rear door frame (this affected several MB models, and takes only a minute to remedy). There was, however, a forum post several weeks ago from a member who experienced a rear door latch failure that prevented his door from staying closed (without bungee cord assistance - lol). If this turned out to widespread, replacement hardware would be required, and NHTSA rules would require affected vehicles to be held at port until remedied.
