Rain gutters, or not?

Does the G have Rain gutters, or not?
The “older” G’s had beautiful rain gutters; and by beautiful I mean functional. Whereas the current version seems to have plastic moldings that look like rain gutters yet don’t do much to keep water running off the roof. Curious as to whether anyone has tried to remove the plastic moldings on any of the newer wagons? Upon looking at OEM parts there seams to be two pieces that make up the gutters, and I’m wondering if one is a cover piece that can be removed to yield rain gutters??
And why would MB get rid of them?

5 - Roof Molding Retainer Strip (463-987-02-00)

Yeah I agree on both, added wind noise and just allow water into the cabin, isn’t it lovely (not) to open the door see water sheet onto the seat just before you get in.
In heavy rain the water from the roof pours down the windows when cornering, my young daughter laughs her head off when it happens.
Obviously added for the classic look but without any consideration for the functionality. Doesnt change my thoughts on the 2019 up improvements overall but is a WTF design.

As you can see in the parts description above. They are not rain gutters! They are designed to be decorative "Roof Moldings" and they function to cover up the roof welding lines. No modern car (not even the S-Class) has "rain gutters" for obvious reasons including aerodynamics and wind noise. Newer cars are designed to have the rain flow over the body externally at highway speeds.
