Renntech EVM?

Does anyone here have experience installing the Renntech EVM for the G63? Is it easy to install?

I’ve installed it on my C63s, it was really simple opening the trunk liner and plugging it in. However I’m unsure about the G63 cause I haven’t seen anything online and there isn’t a way to open the trunk liner (I think).

I had the same question and spoke with RENNtech about it. They recommended having an installer do it as you need a lift apparently…

I was going to purchase this and read a few reviews on this forum on other applications that it sometimes fails (blows a fuse, etc.) and gets stuck in close or open position. I didn't want something that is potentially unreliable and passed, even with the Black Friday special.

Had this installed 1.5 years ago and granted it is never turned to the "off" position, because it sounds great when the flaps are open all the time and not so muted. So I cannot comment on fuses etc.

Initially installed a Fabspeed exhaust (I know I know what was I thinking...) it was atrocious, sounded like junk, had a "tweeting on deceleration, FabSpeeed could have cared less.

It made a pretty noticeable difference on my C63 so I’m hoping it does the same for the G.

How was the installation process? Did you install it yourself or had someone install it for you? Also curious to why you got rid of it?

Had it installed, I still have it. I got rid of the fabspeed garbage not the flap module.

I've installed my EVM and its definitely easier with a lift, but not required. The module sits in the rear under the cargo area (where the battery is) - this is where you get the power from the battery and basically there is a grommet you run 2 wire looms out to either side of the car (zip tying it along the way). each wire loom has 2 connectors, one plugs into the factory valve on the muffler and the other plugs into the factory valve controller. The module then can be set to do exactly what the factory open/close logic is, or it can be always open or always closed. You can also program your homelink buttons to do what the FOB does and can open/close by pressing your homelink buttons (not in the directions, but you program your homelink buttons as you would a garage door opener)

Thanks this was really helpful!

Quick question, when you unplugged the original valve wire and plugged in the evm, was there leftover unplugged wires? If so did you tuck it away somewhere to protect it from the elements?

no leftover wires or harnesses… basically the EVM goes ‘in between’ the original male and female plugs!!

Just got the evm in today and tried to install, what did you use to take off the plastic covers for the rings in the trunk without damaging it?

I think you are referring to the tie downs in the rear cargo area? Just use a trim tool to pop off the plastic cover, then its a bolt underneath the plastic

How does this sound? Did it noticeably increase the volume of the exhaust?

It mostly increase the noise at low RPMs mainly because even in the sportiest setting, the exhaust valves don't open fully.

Side note, ASR cost half of what Renntech charges if you can import it to usa, as they are the maker and oem of these modules, Renntech only got licensing rights so they can slap their name on it but charges double.

There are other choices as well such as CETE.
