Does anyone know how to add PPF to the illuminated metal door sills?
I just had mine replaced and was keeping the clear sticker that the new ones come with on; but a really “smart” service tech just removed them when the car was in for a bumper repair. Why he did that without asking is a different topic!
These door sills get all scratched and scuffed pretty quickly when my family uses the car, so I definitely want to protect them. But I’ve always been told that nothing will stick to the surface - which can’t be true since they ship with a protective sticker.

These are OEM sills. Yours doesn’t have the same?
Terrible design and even worse scratch prone metal choice. Learned to PPF after passengers scuffed them up on the first 2 G's. Should be easy for any installer to trim to size.
Just order this from Xpel. I put it on my painted door sills as well as the trim piece. Just install on the trim, squeegee out and then run a blade on around the outline of the stainless strip and work the edges down. Pretty straight forward process.

Thanks! Same thing here, passengers scuffed them up pretty quickly. I had them replaced under warranty (uneven illumination).

XPEL film is made for exterior and interior protection. I have used it on many surfaces and it adheres to all of it. Body, paint, glass displays, carbon and all other trim including brushed aluminum. XPEL even sells an interior kit for the GWagon which covers the dash brushed aluminum trim panels. Sound like you may have spoken to someone not knowledgeable.

FYI - I am looking for the same thing for my new GLE53. I looked at the XPEL video for the product offered and in it they are applying the PPF to the painted surface below the illuminated sill piece (the item I want the protection for). Is there nothing designed for it once the factory "wrap" is removed? Seems to me that the aluminum is rather easily scratched.
Are you saying to apply it to the illuminated aluminum sill plate and just trim accordingly?
I just ordered some film from Amazon. I spoke to my PPF installer. They are reluctant to do it because the PPF will make the sills glossy. Using matte PPF may be better, but he wasn’t sure without trying it.
I will try the Amazon film first.

That’s the answer I got as well; but others have said it’s possible.
Tomorrow I’ll try a ‘door sill protector’ from Amazon.

You guys are making this way too complicated and worrying about this too much. Spend the $25 on quality film and give it a try. I would upload pics of my GWGN but its at my other house right now. Until then, here are a couple of video's showing how simple it is....even on aluminum. As stated earlier, the XPEL interior kit is precut for all the aluminum dash pieces. Good luck.
Thanks. I don’t doubt you if you say your illuminated MB sills are done this way; but the Tesla sill comes down and you can wrap the PPF around the edges. The MB metal sill is much smaller. I also don’t know how much moisture the illuminated sills can take before they fail. I actually had all of mine replaced under warranty due to uneven illumination, which was likely from normal rain/snow falling on the sills over 4 years.
Not that serious. Xpel works just fine lol. Installer is just lazy or over complicating things. Stealth or gloss PPF would be a personal choice. Doesn't matter, at the end of the day they are door sills.
Applied ppf to all 4 of mine in a short time. Just cut & applied. Trimmed with a box cutter. Super easy. Purchased regular 3m ppf from amazon. Like $10 for a roll.
