G550 Stronger than time 1980s edition
If you ever wonder what it is like to pay more and get less...well this is it....
Don't get me wrong, I love the back to basic, retro theme, but there's no reason they need to make this a limited offering, they could've made it a regular offering and people will buy them. Also the lettering on the front passenger grab handle is hideous.

This one is really awesome!
MB had several recent G-Class "special editions" that totally missed the mark, including the Grand Edition for '24 G63 (ugly gold trims and decals that dealers had problems moving) and the silly looking Moncler collaboration (in highly limited/exclusive numbers, but is just plain ugly). IMHO, this Stronger Than Time 1080s Edition is what a "special edition" should be - something unique and special in a design by combining the past and present of G's heritage. I do wish/hope it comes with a V8 option though, but it doesn't sound like it will.
I still can't get over the ugly Moncler collab, which I guess a buyer's dilemma would be to either 1) wash it as a car or 2) dry cleaning it as a jacket...

As for the recent special editions by MB for the G, you're right that they have all been downright silly/unappealing. I was offered the Grand Edition as my dealer had one on its lot when I purchased my '24. I politely declined after seeing it while trying to contain my laughter. As a sidetone, the dealer subsequently told me a famous rapper ended up buying it, which is much more appropriate given all the gold accents.
I also received an invitational brochure for the Moncler collaboration, which I tossed into the recycler bin. I like Moncler and I like the G-Class, but this combination was hedious.
That's awesome AmyC! I imagine your dealer will be getting some in?
I like how they did magno black to simulate the black plastic of the 80s edition.
My dealer told Mercedes no thanks on a Grand Edition allocation--they knew it would be a hard sell in this region. Even I would have passed on it.

Every dealer in SoCal received one '24 Grand Edition trimmed vehicle last year, and they were typically the first or the last ones to sell. Have you seen it in real life? I turned it downbecause I'm neither a fan of gold color items nor a rapper (although I do like the music from time to time)... plus, my dental insurance doesn't cover "grillz".

The way Mercedes has been pricing their parts lately, I would bet that Vinyl spare wheel cover is at least $1000 lol!

Hi G lovers! Here's an update on the G550 "Stronger Than the 1980s Edition". My Dad met up with our dealer and was told there is already a huge demand globally already for the model since its press release. None of the dealers have received much information about the vehicle other than what we have all read on the Internet. Not every dealer will receive an allocation given the limited quantity (460 globally to be exact), but our dealer was told they will receive 3 given they are the largest seller of high-end MBs and G's in SoCal, which is considered to be a critical market by MB corporate. The vehicle will likely be customizable, but probably not to the extent of the current G-Class. The exterior color will be limited to "Agave Green", "Colorado Beige" and "Cream". Other than these 3 choices, the exterior color will be nonnegotiable. As for its dimensions, our dealer has no clue if it will run closer to the older models or the W463A. Interior wise, however, it will have all of the computerized modern dash amenities of the current G wagon.
Price wise, our dealer said don't expect on paying MSRP, at least not on the West Coast. There will definitely be a "significant" ADM. Production is slated to begin later this year. Since it's a "special edition", MB is in no rush to sell all of the 460 cars this year. MB is fine if sales run into 2026.
That's all I have for now.
Stay safe.

Thanks for the update! It would be so cool if your dad was able to get one. I'd love to see someone on the forum be able to get one. Have a great weekend!

Doug from the Benzs and Bow Ties channel on YouTube posted a quick tour of a cream-colored Stronger Than The 1980s edition G550. Love the seats as well as the special exterior bits! The front passenger grab handle is overdone in my view, but otherwise I think it looks fantastic. Would love to see the Agave Green color in the wild one day.
Here is the Short in case anyone is interested:

$50k ADM, wow...
For what it's worth, I was just told by my sales rep last week (also in SoCal) that the Stronger than 1980's edition isn't as hot of a seller as they expected and he can probably locate one for me at MSRP....he thinks that people just aren't in a hurry to get a limited Edition G Wagen that at the end of the day is still a V6 and painted "Green".
I speculate that people also have gotten smarter about recognizing this as being nothing more than a stripped down G550. I do like it, just not enough to pay ADM in any amount on it.
