this is CTRL + C from the MBUSA website:

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container...G55&class=05_G
2005 G55 AMG
Acceleration1 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds

true, it's not the 2004, but didn't the 2004 G55 have the 55k engine that the 2005 has?

no, the 2004 just has the 5.5 liter engine with 349hp. the 2005 has a 5.5 liter engine and a supercharger with 469hp.

any ideas on lowering the 0-60 time?

sorry, no idea how to improve performance.

i avoid mods on my cars because they have potential to complicate authorized service.

good luck,

You are way off. The G55 Kompressor goes 0-60 in 4.7 and the 1/4 mile in 13 flat. Seriously fast!!!

i hope u are joking. the S SL and CL go to 60 in 4.7 and the G55K is at least a 1K lbs heavier and mbusa.com says 5.5 to 60.

so does anyone know how to make the 2004 g55 a little faster.

One of the car mags just tested the 05 G55 and obtained the numbers that rake55 posted.

It looks to me like MB is on the conservative side on the HP and performance times.

On your '04, I would think Renn Tech could help you out with a performance boost.

Steve T...

that's quite a figure. i wonder if it's a misprint.

as i undersrtand it, the torque of the 55k engine isn't used effectively across the models due to their dynamics.

i surmise that power at all four wheels would yield an appreciable performance improvement.

full-time 4-wheel drive on the G notwithstanding, the published performance alone is surprising. the mag numbers strain credulity.

what are your overall impressions of the G55? any notable problems? i heard from a tech advisor that the power windows tend to fail. have you experience with that issue?

looking forward to your reply.

thanks,
david

I don't believe it to be a misprint, the numbers were impressive and they were
used several times in the article.

I have not timed a 0-60 run in my own G55 but I did have an impromptu encounter with a friend's stock 2002 Vette Auto. I pulled a couple of car lengths on him at the start and held them until about 75mph, the vette then began to make up ground. He could not believe that my "brick on wheels" could run like that. We switched rides and tried a second time with the same results.

The only problems I have had in 4,800 miles is a slight squeak in the dash and an intermittent "SRS" light, both fixed in the same visit to my dealer.

Not much winter/snow driving to be had down here in Texas .

I really only drive the G55 when it is raining, try to drive one of the fun cars on nice dry days. In the rain the all wheel drive is very sure footed.

Here is the article from MotorTrend:

I wonder about the MT test results too,but they tested a Cayenne and X5 4.8 at the same time and those #s seemed credible.
As soon as my wife's G is broken in,I'll check it on the G-tech,later in the year will take it to Joliet drag strip.
Hopefully Kleemann's mods will improve the #s even more.
(at least no more traction problems)

Steve T...

i didn't realize you were in the great state of texas, a place where i spent much time. during one 4-day visit, i logged ~1,100 miles travelling between counties. best barbecue i ever had was in a place i think was called jo allen's, in abilene, of all places. fantastic variety of cornbreads. best tex-mex was in scenic galveston.

sorry to digress into fond gastro-recollections. i'm still suffering the ill-effects of something i ate at a catered condo opening party. (good thing i avoided the sushi. LOL.) anything to distract me from the symptoms...

anyway, what are your overall impressions of the G55? what's the handling like? i recall there can be some serious wind gusts in TX. have you driven during any? and if so, then how did it perform?

i'm looking forward to your reply.

david

Which sport/ute do you think rules the high-end performance segment?

BMW X5 4.8is: 4%

Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG: 15%

Porsche Cayenne Turbo: 40%

Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI: 39%

Thats from motor trend - I dont think there #'s are wrong I do think that there out come is RIGHT!
Porsche dealer told me my Cayenne will do 0-60 5.0 --Stupid fast for any SUV mind you!
If your lookin for FAST *** SUV go with the Porsche. I driven both. No comparison. I love it! Lets not forget that this G-wagen was designed in 1979!! Thing I hate the most--- that you have to slam the doors hard so you can get it to shut properly. Annoying!!

CAYENNE TURBO IS KING!!!!!

David - On very windy days, the G55 requires a little extra attention on the highway. About on par with most other tall SUVs. The wife told me just yesterday that when I was tired of the G55 she would like to keep it and have me trade her H2 instead. I told her not to be in any great hurry

///AMG55 - I have driven the Turbo Cayenne also. I had one for a few days as loaner when a 911tt that I had was in the shop. It was nice but the wife and daughters thought it was terribly ugly. However, if you like to arrive in style the G55 is the way to go. The fact that it was designed in 1979 and is still around today only goes to show they got it right. Porsche is working on a redesign of the Cayenne now, maybe the next one will be a little more distinctive.

Cayenne Turbo is a great driving SUV but it's too common and not much to look at. I bought the G55 because of the looks, which I really like, and you don't see many of them. My father has a Cayenne turbo and neither of us would trade the other. To each his own, both are great SUV's.
